scripted rebellions

I was wondering if it'd be possible, for the romans at this point, to script in rebellions and civil wars in order to make their campaign a bit harder.

In the years when major rebellions or wars broke out throughout the empire: such as the beginning of Caesar's reign and then again for Octavian or a bit later with the legions on the rhine rebelling and trying to enthrone their own emperor....

Would it be possible in these historic years to have either: the provinces, ones that you control at this time that match historical uprising, rebel and join the rebel faction and are more prone to attack you and your cities - or to have provinces under a certain level of civil order (sorry I cant remember the term for city content) would rebel on those years?

This way you always have an internal hidden threat and are forced to watch your provinces and border territories more intently in fear of revolution.

No, because the campaign in EB is supposed to be an alternate reality, not a recreation of the history that you've studied. It is up till 272 BC, but then that's where your history starts.

It is supposed to be "alternate history", so I'm sure that there won't be any historical civil wars in the game. Civils wars, though, were very important to the history of many of the factions and it would be historically inaccurate to ignore this. I think that it would be cool if brigands were reduced greatly and mostly replaced by scripted civil wars. These civil wars would not be tied to any specific historical event or character, but instead a certain set of in game conditions similar to those historical conditions that caused things like the Social War, slave uprisings, native Egyptian rebellions, etc. I don't know if the EB team is planning this, but I hope that they are.

I don't think we are able to handle scripting those other new things right now - our scripters that are around are trying to help with things like the recruitment database and fixing our trait issues. We could sure use some help with scripting if folks out there are willing and able.

yea I realized that it was an alternate history, but the game still gives you "year in history" dates and I thought this could spice it up a bit

I don't know about able, but there's a willing to learn. Rebellions tied to the loyalty trait in 1.5/1.6 would be nice. Is there any specific resources you could point to if one wanted to learn how to script?

Indeed rebellions tied to loyalty would be an awesome addition to EB. Is it anything like in MTW basically? That would be keeping with the necessary alternate history style, but give campaigns a nice edge. Lets hope that rolls around the features list as EB progresses.

Not really. In M:TW disloyal characters became part of the rebels, in R:TW they join a predefined shadow faction. The problem is that for each faction that has loyalty enabled you need a shadow faction, and this shadow faction counts to the faction limit. The R:TR team proposed a way around this by making different start files depending on which faction you play. This way they use only one faction slot for the rebels, but the faction that fills this depends on the faction you chose to play with. For example, if you play the Aedui its the Averni, and if you play the Romans it is the Senate. R:TR is currently trying to implement this in the upcoming R:TR 7.

There are probably some triggers you could script like population size, but would it - especially in the case of the Romani - really 'work'?

What I mean by that is the game doesn't distinguish between citizen, non-citizen, and slave populations. I suppose that something could be scripted where so much percentage of every population enslaved is calculated and 'banked' until another event triggers a large revolt. With those banked a sort of Spartacus-type revolt could ensue with large stacks of a slave levies lead by gladiator troops.

Another possibility is that if the faction leader makes some 'poor decisions' or if the faction finds itself losing battles and territory a family member turned pretender could appear.
