Pray for the family of a fallen hero
I'm not sure if this is the place to post this thread, and moderator please move it if need be. Today we buried a comrade in Jackson, Tennesse. His name was William Timothy Flannigan, but we all called him Tim, or Mr. Flannigan. He was an Apache pilot extrodinaire in the finest tradition of the Cavalry. If he were an ancient Macedonian, he would undoubtedly have wanted to ride with the Companions, perhaps even with Alexander and the Agema Companions. His aircraft was responding to one of those harrasing mortar attacks when a problem developed not long after take off. We don't know all the facts, but it remains that he and his co-pilot were not able to recover it in time and it hit the ground. While the other pilot had minor injuries, Tim didn't make it.
We are deeply saddened by his loss, and don't really know how we'll get by without him. His unit will certainly be missing him greatly as he was an outstanding leader, and freind to all. He was the unit Instructer Pilot, and so trained every flyer in the Troop. He also helped train all of the enlisted men on the use of the Auxilary Power Unit (APU) and how to turn it up for maintenance. He was a consummate gentleman, fun loving guy, and an enthusiastic leader of men. He is survived by his wife and two children, to whom he was the best of Husband and Father.
I simply ask for all who would honor brave soldiers to pray to their God for his family, his unit in Afghanistan, and his freinds everywhere, of which they are countless.
Thank you very much in advance,
Rotorgun
PS: I hope that this is not the wrong place for such a post, but I needed to get some help from my freinds at the Org. I am so sad that my heart is breaking.

Re: Pray for the family of a fallen hero
I'm sorry for your loss. I am sure he was a proud and noble servant of his nation.
I hate Helicopters. Rusty buckets of junk, IMHO.

Re: Pray for the family of a fallen hero
Too many members of my family have been in Iraq (now counting 6 and expecting a 7th) 5 Have made it back unscathed so far, my Cousin is serving with the 1st Armoured "Hussars" outside of Basrah, the 7th (my older brother) is going to Kuwait (thankfully) as a Staff Sargeant in the 321st Logistics Battalion.

Re: Pray for the family of a fallen hero
Lord bless you all. It is 7 Am at my workplace, and it has touched me deeply that some of you have seen fit to reply. Being a soldier, I have come to expect loss and tragedy, especially in the Aviation branch, but it is always unexpexted when it is someone whom one has known well. It is my humble belief that I will see him again upon the Fiddlers' Green when it is my time to go home. That is the consolation of my faith, which I will not elaboraate more upon at this time. You cannot know how much it comforts me that you good folk offer your condolences.
To Wakizashi and Hannibal99 I offer my thoughts and prayers for your family members who are serving. Although I disagree with much about this war, I will never do anything else but heap honor and praise on my fellow soldiers who are serving. I am probably going to join them next fall, and will be proud to count myself among them when I do. May we trust in God, and his inevitable will that he is going to make something good of all this pain.
Well...I've gone on much too long and bared my sentiments too much. God grant us peace.

I imagine since anyone who might feel the need to score cheap points might cause real hurt and upset.

First off there is a new law in town. Now which simley sums that up ~:pimp: nah soly pawns or is that porns me? er :captain: thats more Kukri um :viking: Voight is the anger shaman arr :hippie: no Jag, umm bugger :cowboy: no too broke back. Maybe one of these :helmet: :indian_chief: :policeman: :builder2:. Hmm okay I'll settle for this one .
Really no new law at all, it is expected that the backroom is to be more robust and that the arguements to be more hard. However that does not mean that the forum rules are totally ignored. So this thread is a condolences only one, if you wish to make political comments about the situation please start a separate thread.

Let's not turn this into a flame thread ... this is about a dead soldirer, not about war.
Anyway, the definition of the armed forces is that they serve to protect, primarily ... therefore, they are protectors.

Re: Pray for the family of a fallen hero
Thanks to all for their kind regards. I hope I haven't offended anyone by posting this type of request here. Perhaps this thread should have been posted in the frontroom. Moderator please move the thread or delete it as you feel is appropriate.
Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.

Re: Pray for the family of a fallen hero
It may be a loss for those "left behind" but no loss to the man. He died doing what he (presumably) loved doing.
Rest in peace soldier.
The greatest honor for a warrior lies in the field of battle.

Re: Pray for the family of a fallen hero
My Condolences, as a teen who grew up with his dad working in the services, I only feel deep sympathy for all soldiers lost in any conflict. I've met many soldiers in the short years i've been around, not all of them have been good guys, but all had a dedication to their trade like no other. For that, I have nought but respect for such men as your friend.
So rest assured, Tim will not just be another name on the memorial wall, he will live on in my heart and mind as a hero. God bless him and all the other soldiers fighting around the world.
