R.I.P. :skull:
Heard of him, listened to about 2 songs of him, and I liked em.
oh my god, damn....
Condolences to all his friends and family.
I'll certainly miss him. Thanks for the music.
RIP Syd
shouldn't this be merged with the backroom thread ?
I believe it's "Syd".
Listening to early floyd today, in honour of the man.
It's both.Quote:

When you think about it, a lot of Floyd masterpieces came directly because of Syd. Every Floyd fan, even one who doesn't like Piper owes it to him to inspiring such work.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter,
you piper, you prisoner, and shine
Rest in peace, Syd.
Like I said previously, this one had me crying. Audibly. This is by far the most painful famous death of late for me.
Oh, where are you, now? Pussy-willow, who smiled on this leaf;
When I was alone, you promised a stone from your heart.
My head kissed the ground; I was half the way down, treading the sand, please...
Please lift a hand, and only a person whose armbands beat on his hands hang tall~
Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?
The poppy bird's way swing twigs coffe brands around;
Brandish her wand with a feathery tongue.
My head kissed the ground; I was half the way down...
Treading the sand, please~
Please lift a hand, I'm only a person, with eskimo chain, I tattoed my brain all the way~
Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?
I actually had to sell my both copies (CD and LP) of Wish, because I suddenly found that I despised it. The whole thing struck me as an overly pretentious, wholly inappropriate piece. If they had really wanted to salute Syd, they would have one a sequel to Piper.Quote:

Well, had they done a sequel to Piper they would have been blasted by the critics for moving back to the Atom Heart Mother era or so. The Floyd probably wanted the best of both worlds in a good tribute to Syd as well as something that would satisfy the rest of them in terms of direction.Quote:

And you can hear a bit of See Emily Play near the very end (of course, that might just be me imagining things).
Finally, judging by your tastes in music you must like Wish better than the next few albums the Floyd came out with (heck, probably all of them).
.
Haven't heard of him.
:hide:
May he rest in eternal peace anyway. ~

me either. just paying my respects to a dead man.Quote:

Take care, Syd. A bad day for music.
Start at the beginning. Pink Floyd's first album; The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.Quote:

So long, Syd :hippie:
Back in the 70s as a punk I was obliged to hate the Floyd, but one day someone played "See Emily Play" for me. Okay I was a little under the influence at the time, but apparently I loved it so much I made them play it seven times in a row. That song is so fey, still gives me the flutters.
Anyway, it got me into Floyd.
One of the flightsim sites I visit is paying its respects as well.

Top of the page.
So he was in a band or something? And why is "rock" in pink letters?
I heard the terrible news on the radio yesterday; I pulled over in my van and sat reflecting on those memories of Syd, early Floyd, Piper, The Madcap Laughs. Music can be very grateful that a pure genius like Syd came along.
Such a sad, tragic story of a diamond that shone brilliantly but far too briefly.
Enjoy your gig Syd
.......Orda
Peace out Syd, I hope you enjoy the great gig.
What better time for the four of them to bury the hatchet and get together to remember their fallen comrade.
Without Sid's life as a warning example I would have never quit taking acid after the 38th trip...
Never heard of him. I've heard of Pink Floyd but never listen to their music.
Paying my respect to a man who passed on.
Wow, I just read Wikipedia bio on him, didn't know he became a recluse.
Thankyou for the countless hours of enjoyment you have brought to my life from the first time i heard you, till my own final day.
Rest in peace friend.
