Ive been reading some of old posts about this proposed mod and it sounds cool but the threads end last year - did it die?- or is it hiding in the hills?
one of my my mates does jacobite battle reenactment and so im kinda into the idea for this mod - i dont have the knowledge to do my own jacobite mod so any info on this or anything similar state would be peachy - i cant get on the net everyday but will try to respond asap :2thumbsup:
Well, if the thread has been abandoned for more than a couple of months it is reasonable to presume the mod is dead. Creating a mod is no easy task, and many never make it past the conceptual stage. If you want to play safe you could search for more threads started by the same modder. Or you could have a look at the TWC: they have less requirements for hosting so more mods choose to have their forums there.

As a fellow Scot, I think this would be a great idea for a mod. I'd be willing to help as a researcher - I could even do some skinning and modelling. I would not be fully committed to this mod, as I am already a member of the Medieval Auctoriso mod for M2TW and I need to visit those forums every day.
In fact, its for the MA mod that I'm learning to model in 3dsMax7, and I can already skin using Photoshop. If you want, I could start making some units - just basic modelling to help me improve for MA, but will be productive at the same time.
I don't know a whole lot about the ancient Caledonians. I know they were apparently strong in appearance, had red or brown/black hair, often spiked it and dyed it white or bright red. Apart from that - they were pretty similar to the rest of the British barbarians, even if they were a bit more barbaric.
Like I say, if you're still interested in this mod, I could help out with it a bit.
Unforunately, I'm leaving tomorrow morning to go on holiday for a fortnight, but after that I'll be able to help.
EDIT: Just read your post a bit more carefully - is this a mod for the ancient Caledonians or about the Jacobite Rebellion? The latter would be a lot harder to do, at least beyond my ability.

It was mainly a jacobite rebellion mod I was interested in, because one of my mates is a member of the white cockade, a jacobite battle reenactment group based up in blairgowrie (I think). It Hadnt occurred to me until i read your post that Caledonian total war was a bit historically inacurate as a name for a mod which i thought was about the jacobite rebellion - Maybe i read the old threads wrongly - I totaly agree that a jacobite rebellion mod would be hard to do, the time scale of the rebellion seemed to me to be a major stumbling block. Ive never had a go at moding and dont think my pc would be up to it, as ive only got 400mhz to play with, just enough to play MTW although big battles can be really sluggish - I like the idea of doing a mod for the Ancient tribes of Britain, i dont know if there is much info on them other than Roman accounts. Ive played MTW/VI which is fun, but only a cursory glance at the factions around Britain. If I get a better pc I may well try to to create a mod of the kind mentioned but until then I guess ill Just have to Play the ones other people have created - Im playing the MTW XL mod as the Lithuanians at the moment - hope you had a peachy holiday :2thumbsup:
There are already two of those for R:TW. Arthurian: Total War has reached beta stage. Brittainia: Total War: The Roman Invasion on the other hand seems to have gone inactive. For M:TW, there's only Age of Vikings and Fanatics.Quote:

I just checked those links Ludens kindly provided and although they all sound cool, sadly (for me) they appear to be for RTW, Which i dont have, But not to worry Im enjoying playing MTW XL at the moment maybe when i am less financially embarrassed i can Buy it ( and a decent pc to play it on)

You might want to check out Pike & Musket (which is for MTW) In the first place it's a very good mod, but particularly in the upcoming new release there's an English Civil War campaign which is based on the Viking Invasion map, and will also feature the Scottish Civil War and Highland-style units. I think there was even talk about a Historical Campaign based on that conflict but I don't know if that was ever developed.

Vidar, are you still interested in making a Scottish mod? I could help with research for either a 'Jacobite Rebellion' or 'Ancient Caledonian' mod, although I could only really make units for the Caledonian mod.
If we were to make a Jacobite mod, I think it would have to be a mini-mod, and including only two factions - The Jacobites and the Government Forces.
August 1745 would be the ideal start date, since its just about when Bonnie Prince Charlie arrived at Glenfinnan (1745 was also the end date in real-life but things could have been different). Therefore, turns lasting a week would be ideal, allowing 52 turns in a year.
The Jacobites would be led by Prince Charles Edward Stewart, returned having been brought up in Rome, and never having actually set foot in Scotland before. He is a poor commander, careless with his money, and spends little time training the troops. The Jacobites would be represented by a White Cockade with a red background as the faction symbol, and the St. Andrews cross as the banner in battle. They would have mostly light melee infantry, backed up by some basic riflemen and light cavalry; perhaps also with a few units unique to certain clans. They would also have a few French mercenaries (some of Irish descent) and artillery, but not much, as most of the boats containing aid from France were sunk in storms.
Highland Levies - light melee infantry, armed with basic polearms
Highland Infantry - light melee infantry, armed with sword and targe
Highland Swordsmen - heavy melee infantry, armed with claymore
Highland Riflemen - poor ranged infantry, armed with basic rifles and sword
French Irish Regiment - average ranged infantry, armed with rifles with bayonets
Scots Royal - elite ranged infantry, armed with rifles and swords
Highland Cavalry - light cavalry, armed with sword and targe
Life Guards - elite heavy cavalry, armed with sword
Three-Pounder Cannons - light artillery
The Government Forces would be led by King George II, who had two sons, Frederick Lewis Prince of Wales, and William Augustus Duke of Cumberland. William was the commander at the Battle of Culloden when the Jacobites were finally defeated. The Duke of Cumberland was an excellent commander, familiar with battlefield tactics, and cleverly told his men to attack with thier bayonets the enemy to their right rather than their front, allowing them to stab under the sword-wielding arm without being blocked by the 'targe', or 'shield'. The Government Forces are represented by a Black Cockade on a yellow background as their faction symbol, and the Union Flag in battle. They fight with the standard English riflemen, as well as certain clansmen such as the Stewarts, and have top-class cavalry in the form of their dragoons, as well as plenty of heavy artillery. The English also have militia units from the highlands, used as garrison troops in the many forts which were springing up. The militia troops wore distinctly dark tartans, and were the origins of the Black Watch.
