Diplomacy
After having spent years playing MTW and RTW I'm glad that they're allegedly making diplomacy better. I do realize that this game is called "total war" but I do want functioning diplomacy. In the screenshots I saw it shows how good your relations are with the given faction that you are conversing with, which I think is a great idea. The thing that infuriated me with the previous two games was that there was really no point to having an ally. I hope with this new system that your ally that you are on really good terms with doesn't just attack you unprokoved. Now I know that backstabbing will happen, but if you're on really good terms with that faction and you don't provoke them, I would hope they wouldn't attack you.
Sorry if this has already been covered before.

Re: Diplomacy
in rome total war there was a use in allying with another faction.
For example : you fight versus the macedons as brutii but you have allied with the greeks.
Now,if you attack a Macedon settlement with a greek army nearby, the greek army is obligated to help you in the battle. So,you can actually make advantage of the situation :laugh4:

Re: Diplomacy
I've got to say, alliances in RTW are, though flawed, a nearly infinite improvement over MTW. I've had alliances last well over 100 turns, even in the unpatched 1.0 version.
That said I've never been really assisted by an ally after requesting assistance, and the alliances do break down fairly often for completely unknown reasons (and I suspect rather random reasons), but it is an improvement. Let's hope that M2TW takes the apparent randomness out of it with the worsening/bettering notifications, etc.

Re: Diplomacy
In RTW I can't count the amount of times I have had an ally who was about a hundredth the size of my nation, at war with three other factions who proceeded to walk up and siege one of my cities.
If that happens in M2TW, I will take the game back to the shop.

Re: Diplomacy
Yeah, i hope they improve the AI in that matter as it really seems that the AI dosen't realize the strength of other factions as on my current campaign i had 3 standard armies (thats 4 equittes,6 princepies and 4 archers) based in lugdinensis and another 4 in total and still those britons who got about 1 stack of lousy spear warbands after fighting themselves back into stone age with the germanians decide to attack lugdunum even though that the gauls got nothing and that all of thier remaining settlements are totaly naked right next to the briton borders.

Re: Diplomacy
GFX, thats exactly what I've been talking about. I agree that the diplomacy is improved from MTW,but when my tiny little ally attacks me for no reason, I'm dumbfounded like you said.
