100+ New Units, Right?
So, y'all have said a couple of times that there will be over 100 new units in .8. Has the number gone up even more now, or is it still about the same? And something I really wanna know is this: are most of the new units faction units, or are there some new regional units coming in too? I'd really like to see some Skordiskoi, for example, and some more merc units (especially for S Anatolia: Lykians, Carians, Pisidians, etc.). Am I gonna see any of these sorts of things in .8?

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
I'm fairly sure its 100 new units, which is great news, will make multiplayer even more intense.
I'd like to see some Isaurians added to the game, they were badass infantry, not sure in their role pre-Roman times, but they certainly became a rich recruitment area for Eastern Roman and Byzantine heavy infantry.
Perhaps an Isaurian mountain unit with solid melee/skirmishing ability would be nice addition to Seleucid or Ptolemaic Armies.

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
Though the Issaurians did have an interesting role in Byzantine social politics and land economics, they weren't a player in our times ~;)

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
Blasted! How about some more Kappadokians then? :sweatdrop: I'd like to recreate the Mithradatic Wars.
Hmm... so many possibilities with 100 new units.

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
I want to see more barbarians.
-
Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
I particularly want to see more Gaels, not enough variation in them.
-
Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
I think the Gauls are chocked full already, as for the other barbarians, certainly some extra units they could use. I think though the biggest gaps are in the East, where so many cool native units are missing. It makes the dynamics of Eastern Armies dull, at least in .7.4 campaign. I want my Medians, Kappadokians, Kurds, Arabs, Arachosians, Iranians, etc, etc!

Then you are going to be a very happy camper......

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
I don't know that the next release has 100 plus though. We may have that many total completed now, but there was a cut off point a month or two ago for new units in 0.8. Spartan Warrior and Forgus and others have been still working on units, so it might be 100 more than 074 now, but I thought it was only going to be from 70-80 new ones for 0.8. Could be wrong on that, but we will shortly see.
edit: ("shortly" refers to an internal update, not the 0.8 release.)

I agree, I feel like the barbarians have thus far been given the short end of the stick as far as developing them goes. It seems that since most people are greek or eastern enthusiasts they've been given most of the attention. But, I mean the game is called Europa Barbarorum. I just really hope (being a barbarian man myself) that we see some good forward movement with those cultures.
The gauls are pretty cool though.:2thumbsup:

Actually I would guess that most of information about the "barbarian" cultures comes of archealogical finds rather than historical texts and thus means that developement for these cultures is dependent on new and continuing finds. We don't have professional archealogists for nothing. We don't give any faction the short end of the stick, we just need people to work on them.
As for the new units, many of them will be eastern and nomadic units, not because there is a basis against barbarians but because the eastern factions had a severe lack of units, which was felt needed to be rectified.

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
I have a question! Will the classic, "antiquated," hoplites be included in the upcoming 0.8 release?

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
I hope that we can see some new units in the western Mediterranean also. In particular;
1. Balearic slingers
2. Nuragic warriors (Sardinia)
3. A wider selection of mercenaries available in Sicily; the famous Campanians (remember, the Mamertines were Campanian mercs) and other Italians, a more interesting selection of Greeks, & even barbarians (Carthage extensively used Gallic and Iberian mercs in Sicily; so too did Dionysius the Great).
4. Ligurian warriors; the Ligurians served as mercs throughout the western Mediterranean, fought Rome during 230-220 BC, and joined Hannibal in significant numbers in the Second Punic War - lets get some in EB!
5. What about Campanian cavalry recruitable around Capua? The Campanian cavalry were the best arm that that region could field; they were the only Campanian force of any value to Hannibal in the Second Punic War.
6. Elephants. African forest elephants (Loxodonta Africana cyclotis), and perhaps "mercenary" Indian elephants as well (I think there is a good argument that at least some of Carthage's elephants were sourced from Asia), should be available at Carthage. As far as I can tell, despite the presence of the "elephant resource" near Carthage, that city cannot produce elephants. Only Cirta can. Very frustrating.

Suffice to say, a number of those desires should be realized.

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
Muj - yes, they should be included in the 0.8.

Whilst it is true most EB'rs are 'classical' fans and as such there tends to be a lot of focus on Greeks and Romans, some of the guys have been good enough to help out with the barb factions. I can proudly say that EB is a real team effort.
As far as the Celts, there'll be a number of improvements that I hope should be enough to put a smile on your face. We are currently updating the Germans and if we get time, may be able to add a few additional Celts to what we have planned for 0.8 already.

Great so this mod was detined to be bad from the start?. Things change so i think the title is totally irrelevent. I think there is enough hoplites and stuff for the greeks and macedoninians and lots more different eastern units would be nice as well as a little bit more variety in the elephants.

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
I think that the Title Europa Barbarorum has little to do with it. Just look at the EB home page and it describes why they named it this. I think that ATM the Barbarians are the most complete factions (Except for Getai I believe) and as such they don't need the most forward progress, because they are ahead as it is.
Personally I think that the East is far more interesting and turbulent at this time, and I believe that the focus on Phalanx warfare is fully justified.
-
Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
I hope at least 4 or 5 iberian units more.

Rome? Greeks?

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
Some barb factions are way out in front and at a fairly high level of completion - like the Aedui/Arverni/Casse, thanks to folks like Ranika and Psycho, among others. But the getai, sweboz, and iberian faction still have a way to go to catch up - still, they are were we are working most now I'd say, so they won't stay this way. So it's not that simple to say the barbs are well-off or need a lot of work. Things are a little more complex.

Re: 100+ New Units, Right?
Yeah; in reality, I'd say the Hellenic factions are receiving the least amount of work right now - for a solid month recently, devs saw nothing but new barbarian skins, save a few (like slingers) that applied to many factions.
