Bleak Future for the British?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1770
A survey found that one in three Brits want to retire abroad. There are also many who wish to move out of the UK in the near future. Add on a declining marriage and birth rate (the UK has been below the level needed to replace the population for about 30 years now), and you have a sticky situation.

As for myself, I am a Yank, but what do you Brits feel about the future of the UK? This can't be good news.

Re: Bleak Future for the British?
Never been right since old Bill the Bastard and his Normans came over. Oh woe, woe and thrice woe!
Last one out turn the light off, please.

Re: Bleak Future for the British?
To quote Eddie Izzard:
I want to be an astronaut, go to outer space, discover things that have never been discovered. He said, "Look, you’re British so scale it down a bit."
All right I want to work in a shoe shop then. Discover shoes that no one’s ever discovered right in the back of the shop, on the left. And he said, "Look, you’re British, so scale it down a bit."
All right, I want to work in a sewer then. And discover sewage that no one’s ever discovered and pile it on my head and then come to the surface and sell myself to an art gallery. And he said, "What the **** have you been smoking?"

Re: Bleak Future for the British?
1 in 3 Brits retiring abroad could be just the thing to save Britain, because unfortunately we have a very desperate age crisis that no one seems to want to face up to. In 30 years 1/3 of the population will be over 65 - when you add that to children and those incapable of working Britain is left more than 1/2 not working in the population. With declining birth rates, there won't be enough children reaching maturity to replace the retiring old.
Now with an NHS and free schooling for all - who the hell is going to pay for that? I've been told that I probably won't be able to retire until I'm 75.
So 1/3 old people going abroad is fine with me - as long as they don't return every time they want an operation.

The young ones are leaving too, you know?
It will be the end of all that is good and British, aye. We'll all be speaking Polish.
No doubt mass conversion to Islam and acceptance of Sharia will follow.
[Oh woe, indeed.]

Re: Bleak Future for the British?
Well, you still have great football. I don't think it'll be that bad. I just think that if you needed a bunch of people, offer something good to immigrants.

Re: Bleak Future for the British?
Most of those stating they want to retire abroad are probably the same people who decry, belittle and demonise immigrants - it is most likely all hot air, they won't leave. Even if they did, it may well help our whole system by getting rid of our dependents, nevermind the fact that they will vote for the Tories :laugh4:

We have the same problem here. Our liberal "blue" states make all the money, while our red states complain about how we're holding them back with our handouts. While I think it would be better for some to cut the funding to our red brethern, I just don't think its the liberal thing to do. Being bleeding hearts and all.

Why would that help? It's not like you lose your pension plan when moving abroad, you know. The British oldsters will still pick up their slice of money and spend it in Spain instead of the UK, making things even worse.

Oops, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

9 out of the top 10, you guessed it: Red states.

Well not really, because take California for instance, what 5th largest economy in the world? 40% voted GOP, yet it's a "blue" state. So if you take out all the GOP cash from the so called rich blue states (and Dem cash from the red states), things even out.
Not to mention the whole "republicans are the party of the rich" mantra we hear all the time. Regardless, I realize he just got his talking points confused and was trying to take a shot at republican majority states, but still... it made him look rather ignorant.

It's worse than you think. Pater gets his cold weather payment, you know the ones pensioners get when it's below freezing for more than 3 days on the trot, IIRC, and it rarely gets below 19C where he lives. He laughs like a drain at the stupidity of the Blair government, all the way to the taverna. I like to join him in a toast to Tony as we spend HM governments money on Stefado and Macedonian red. God bless socialism. :wall:

Re: Bleak Future for the British?
Ah, it's not like the good old days when we had indentured slaves, sorry 'servants', and sent 8yr-olds down th'pit. ~;)
Has anyone ever had a fantastic holiday somewhere abroad and wished that they could stay? That's what most of the people who responded to the survey would have thought, it's just fantasy. I'd bet there's less than 10% really serious about it.

Re: Bleak Future for the British?
No need to worry all the immigrants will fill it back up again

Wouldn't really make a difference. Millions of our tax money gets wasted on Spain anyway.

I don't think so. There is a lot of desire to leave amongst lots of people. What's the point of staying here? You pay a fortune in taxes, it rains a lot, you have to put up with the Daily Mail and everyone is rude to you in shops/cafes.

And the only Democratic governor in the last 20years was voted out in a recall election. Yet conservatives love to bash crazy liberal California. So we'll take the bashing and our money. And yes GDP is a better measurment.
There is a reason those states you listed are "best for business". They give incredible compensation packages to encourage business to move from the wealthy overpriced rich blue states. Two companies I worked for did it. My current employer did it and I finally bit the bullet and moved with them. Now I'm a crazy liberal in a red state bringing my crazy values and my crazy spending habits. WAHOOOO!

You're old. Check your manifesto. Democratic party is the party of the elites and l33ts alike. We're taking over the world.

Yeh, life's a bitch, eh! ~
I think that the present 'Reality TV' generation have it so good that they just make crap up to dislike: 'Why should WE pay taxes', 'It's so unfair!' in whiney voices. I want to get out of the country to get away from them! Smug twits, the lot of them.
edit: naughty word

Re: Bleak Future for the British?
Always the same story:
An immigrant comes in England and goes to NHS, he is a leech. When a British goes to Hungary for a dental operation or in Belgium for a normal surgery he is smart…:laugh4:
When you are in a pub and people speak English, you are in Spain…:laugh4:
Immigrants do the jobs that English don’t want…. And immigrants live on social benefit… you have to choose, but you heard these two stories everywhere…
Example:
“It will be the end of all that is good and British, aye. We'll all be speaking Polish.
No doubt mass conversion to Islam and acceptance of Sharia will follow.”
Either you speak polish and you convert to Catholicism, or you convert to Islam and speak what? Arab, Indonesian, Turk, Pakistanis?
The only reason why British want to go is it cost 90% of my salary for the rent, and the rest goes for the Council taxes, MOT, congestion charges if you drive and parking tickets if you don’t… And it is raining all the time… That is a drought, and we will pay extra cost to the Water companies because they mad HUGE benefit in avoiding carefully repairing the water pipes system and now wanting us to pay for what they were supposed to do…
Thank to the “socialist” government which privatised every thing all big companies made huge benefit, their chairmen increase their salaries in astronomic dimension in NOT doing their job. AND we pretend to be the most successful country within Europe…:wall:

He, he, the beautiful irony is that when they emigrate, they will be in a country surrounded by 'foreigners'! They'll be the despised immigrants. How will they cope? :laugh4:
