Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
Hi guys,
This is my first post, but I've been lurking for a month now. I would like to thank the EB team for making the best mod for RTW around.
Currently I am interested in the Haydasian faction. I gave them a go and found their position at first difficult. As I progressed through the campaign I found that I didn't have many reliable units to draw an army from. Anyone know if the Armenians are getting more units in .8? Didn't they have imitation legionaires at one point, or was that just Vanilla RTW inaccuracy?
Thanks
Re: Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
Armeniy will get much more and better Units in the upcoming 0.8 release, but afaik no imitation legionaries.
Re: Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
Well Pontus copied Rome's Legionaries after being defeated by them, but I don't know about Armenia...
Re: Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
Hayasdan is getting more and heavy inf (including a heavy Phalanx unit) and regional troops.
The whole eastern recruitment area is going to be improved (100 new units, most of them in the east afaik).
There won't be unit called Imitation Legionari, that just looks like the roman legionari just in other colors.
Instead of that there are unit's like the Greek Thorakitai (sp?) or the Karthadast Heavy Infantrie (forgot the name) that represent an develeopement of other factions towards the roman warfare. Maybe some EB mebers can clarify this better than i.

With regards to Pontus, I think Sertorius supposedly also sent people to train Mithridates' troops as part of some kind of deal, though whether they were trained in Roman fashion I wouldn't know.
Re: Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
Well they weren't exact copies, but Pontus traditional phalanx forces were gone, replaced by shields and swords very similar to Roman troops.
I believe he made a point of copying their tactics, more so that their equiptment, but I would have to check.

I believe this is the Elite African Infantry, both sword and spear/pike/sarissa/pointy stick of doom. I don't know about the other factions.
Re: Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
I believe that at some point in the second century BC the armenians used roman style weopens and armour and tactics
Re: Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
Wouldn't it have to be in the FIrst Century BC? The Marian Reforms were 107 BC, and Armenia wasn't really fought IIRC until after that.

Love to see some evidence for that assertation. Considering that Armenian did not have an alphabet till the 3rd century AD written evidence is non-existant and most work comes from foreign powers writing about Hayasdan.
Hayasdan's unit list for 0.8 will be either complete or almost complete. The basic list is something akin to this.
Caucasian Spearmen - Cheap regional spear unit
Armenian Slingers - simple slinger unit
Eastern Javelinmen - simple javelin unit
Armenian Archers - Eastern archer unit
Armenian Spearmen - Factional spear unit
Javelin Horsemen - Light skirmisher horse unit
Armenian Horse-archers - Light HA unit with spear.
Aspet Hetselazor - Medium/Heavy cavalry unit
Warrior Swordsmen - Theuros Shield, sword and javelin
Cataphract Horse-archers - Medium/Heavy HA unit with spear
Noble Cavalry - Heavy Cataphract cavalry unit
Noble Guard - Heavy spear unit
There will also be a Georgian unit for those who manage to take Kartli and Egrisi, but we won't say anymore about that.
Pretty much all except one of those above units are a given for 0.8, but I'll my hardest to make sure all of them are in for 0.8.

Just out of curiosity: what are your sources for this? The books I read were always very vague on the subject, saying that Mithradates obtained Roman instructors to copy Roman drill, but nothing about equipment or tactics. But I haven't read much on the subject, so I wouldn't really know.

@ Foot:
Thanks for that list! :2thumbsup: It seems like Hayasdan will have a diverse unit roster with potential for many different tactics. I'm sure it'll be an enjoyable faction to play.
Re: Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
Foot is the freaking man. He has worked very hard on getting this faction (and has done more than his share for the whole mod too) ready for 0.8 and it will be much more enjoyable because of it. If we had people as motivated as he was for each faction, I think we'd be done by now with all the cultural and text stuff.
Thank you for answering my question and then some
Thank you for answering my question and then some. I was searching for screenshots of some of the new Armenian units and found a couple in the Eastern Factions preview. Is there any chance we can see more?
Awesome work on the new skins that I have seen! :2thumbsup:

Re: Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
Well well, it seems someone finally did Hayasdan justice.
Guess who I'll be playing first in 0.8? Just amazing.
Re: Question regarding the Haydasian faction.
Thanks, Foot.
I already had a chance to see the first two links, but I haven't seen the third one. I'm guessing that will be the Armenian assault infantry? It looks really good. Can't wait to use them
