And of what political relevance is this? Why is this in the backroom?
What do you play, SFTS? Striker (your name)? Middy? Defender? Keeper? Hopefully not bench-warmer. Good luck.
American football, IrishArmenian, I think.
I don't recall ever hearing of Texans getting pumped up over soccer.
On a side note, my old HS kicked serious butt last year, and I bet that team could take anything your HS threw at it, SFTS. ~;p
Crazed Rabbit
I play center on AMERICAN FOOTBALL
This was seriously a Frontroom topic, together with all the peace and love and sissy sportsmen under protective Medieval armor that comes with it. Unacceptable. I'll have to politicize it myself, then, and preferably with a good mixture between short, flaming one-liners and long-winded nonsensical rants.
But I'm bored so only the one-liners today!
...
This is not real Football. (first one-liner)
American Rugby-ripoff sucks. Wimps. (second one-liner)
Texas sucks. (third, dramatically apocalyptic one-liner)
~;)
There you go. Flame away! :2thumbsup:
Of course I am joking

Yeah, Soccer is a great sport for...
WOMEN
It keeps their weight down and gives them self-confidence :2thumbsup:
Actually, this is a religious topic.
Having lived there, I can assure you that a Texan's devotion to her/his high school football team is a fully spiritual experience and the weekly gathering better attended than those Sunday mass thingees.
I read in the Austin American Statesman once that the state high school championship was played in the Cotton Bowl with 37k in attendence. I was stunned. I then read the blurb further and learned that that was for the AA level (smaller schools) championship -- the AAA draws more.:dizzy2:
Yay for both versions of football! Since I play both, I can confidently tell you that soccer (football) has found a way to render american football to its knees. Kickers! Yes Kickers! Those often hated, shuned, ignored players, who are also one of the most important positions are often soccer players, including myself. Without soccer, american football would be a sad specitical of inhumainly bad kicks and easy run backs. Long live the 40 and 50 yard field goals and 60 plus yard kickoffs that only soccer players can render unto american football!

Dead on. When I was in college a friend dragged me to a HS game (1977) to see some HS-QBs square off. At Granada Hills, between some numbnuts of the Granada Coach's kid (Elway) and a future draft pick taken before Marino (by the Patriots, he's a major attorney today).
Texas football is like watching "glorydays", because for the most part that is all these lads will ever have. Born to nothing, live in the minute glory of youth, and die bragging about it. Sounds about right - for Texas. "Glorydays". All things must pass.
The rest that have played the game - Imagine SoS hasn't, can't, or has an excuse for not participating - know that the real appeasement comes at the conclusion of a season ( win or lose). It becomes a matter of surviving it. A matter of personal accomplishments, or assisting the team. If the team failed? Did you as player fail the team? Or, did the team fail you - you being so wonderful and all. Or, did the team mesh, have fun - and the mates realize ... it's just a f'n game.
Win-lose, is a matter of opinion. The score is less relevent than personal accomplishment. That, be what it may, is American football. Texas FB, is ..... "glorydays".
