We love stories here, and we love tactics here. Who cares if some of us don't love Rome, since all of us love stories and tactics all the same?
Enjoy your stay.
Re: Hi Just Returned to Rome
With the patches, RTW was definitely improved somewhat. It's a shame it wasn't more like that when it was first released. At least people new to the game who start at version 1.5 don't have to suffer the sometimes embarassingly bad AI we put up with in v1.0. You can definitely have a lot of fun with RTW, so it's good you're enjoying it. I think some of us were spoilt with MTW and Shogun though, and were a little disappointed with how RTW turned out. But players going from RTW to MTW would probably be shocked as well.
Don't forget to check out the mods for RTW when you tire of the original RTW campaign. If you find yourself winning every battle by a margin of 10 kills to 1 death of your own, a good mod can provide a better challenge, reducing the kill:death ratio to 9:1.
Anyway, welcome to the Org. It's a nice place when you can get past the unsavoury smell that lingers in the Entrance hall.
Re: Hi Just Returned to Rome
Welcome to the Org(Am I even allowed to say that? oh well what's done is done :sweatdrop: ). Rome is personally one of my favorite games of all time. I started the series with Shogun and absolutely loved it, then I got trapped in Starcraft for who knows how long and came back to R:TW about 6 months ago. I was almost going to get M:TW to check out all the cool things people say about it, but I figured I could milk R:TW for all it's worth and wait for MII:TW, and I have. R:TW has a lot of potential with all the awesome mods out for it. Some of my favorites are XGM, RTR, and EB. Hope you can tap into this game's potential and have loads of fun.
Re: Hi Just Returned to Rome
For some reason, Ive never been one to mod my games. I prefer to trust the official releases. The game as it is, seems fine to me.
It is a shame that the AI seems to cheat on Very Hard but I won't play the game on anything less.
Hell I already have a million stories to tell from the game :2thumbsup:
Thanks for the welcome all!
Re: Hi Just Returned to Rome
Eh, just tried to post in the Single Player forum but it won't let me.
Re: Hi Just Returned to Rome
It is probably because your a junior member.:furious3: Just Kidding about the swearing. Yeah. Play Vanilla Rome to death then get mods. If you like strategic planning go for RTRPE or EB. If you like battles go for SPQR. XGM feels like vanilla but is loads better. There are also a lot of other mods.
Re: Hi Just Returned to Rome
Welcome Lucifer, Quickening and the Walrus!
Enjoy the Org. ~

Yes, there's some truth in that although a 9:1 ratio is optimistic. We are running a Roman PBM on Rome Total Realism Platinum Edition (medium battles; historical army composition) and have just updated our kill ratios:

One player has a god-like 13:1 ratio over 25 battles. But in recent encounters with the Macedonians and Seleucids, the ratio for our faction as a whole has sunk much lower. Over the last 20 turns, we've only had a 4:1 kill ratio and lost 2 Co-Consuls in battle.
With the right mod and difficulty settings, a player can get a real challenge out of RTW singleplayer. I still have nightmares about when I tried Bouis's Roma mod. Shudder.

I can asure that the kill ratio is "better" now. The Seleukids -I play Sarmate- slaughtered half of my "heir breed" in and around Jerusalem. Dam it....amongst was one of my super-botexkickin´ generals....Superior or legendary comander :wall: ~:(
