To sum up the 2 articles, 1 from the guardian and the other from the New York Times, They still discriminate on homosexuality, but if they've had a gender bender operation, they can be issued new birth certifacates and allowed to marry. Also stated is that there are higher cases of sexual reorientation surgey for 2 main facts, this allows people to pursue the sex of thier choice in a legal way and is the number 1 place to go in the muslim world as it is outlawed in every or just about every muslim country. They still are shunned socially in most cases but politically they have given them rights.
Both these articles are both over a year old and dont know if it made it into the same sex marriage debates or not as I'm not heavily involed in backroom. Just found it rather interesting as it is Iran that allowed this.

It's been like that for a long time. Actually, I wonder if it is another leftover from the days of wise Darth Khomeini.

It's the same in the US. People can get married to the same birth sex if they just have a legal sex.

I heard from a mate who went to Egypt that apprently 2 dudes isnt considered as contrary to Islamic law as long as they dont love each other...as long as its just about getting your freak on, then its all good...apprently...

I read that same thing about ancient Greeks in the Monestary. You can have all the rough rump lovin' all you want but you can't enjoy it.

From the Iraqi security guards I worked with a fair bit (not all thankfully) firmly believed that men are for pleasure while women are for reproduction.
