Marriage in exchange for territory
I was looking through the marketing blog pointed out by King Noob in this post, and found a curious statement in one of their adverts I had not seen.
Specifically, "Manage your economy, spread or squash religion, marry princesses off in exchange for territory and wage war on your enemies." The economy, religion, and war parts I've heard plenty about. However, the role of princesses is something I know little about.
Is there indeed a one-to-one relationship between the marriage of a princess and territory ownership? That is, if a princess marries into another faction, does that mean the territory owned by the lucky fellow (i.e. that he's got title to) becomes your faction's? Interesting dynamic if that's the case, I'd have much more respect for princesses ~:)

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
sweet iam going to make a princess and marry her off to a general of HRE

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
It certainly is an interesting development ~:)
Of course, a lot depends on the diplomacy AI - In RTW you can't give away territory, let alone sell it! (for money, alliance, marriage, whatever).

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
Well in the original MTW you can inherit land if your king/prince is married to a princess whose faction has collapsed and/or fallen into civil war. Perhaps this feature is returning in the sequel?

In that case, you'd be giving away land, not gaining it.

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
I'm not entirely sure but I think the idea is that the general marries into your faction, in other words he becomes a vassal of your leader and therefore his land becomes yours. Sort of like bribing them.

Well, you can give away land as a gift (try more than once, for some reason, that tends to do the trick), but I do agree, the diplomatic AI needs vast improvements.

Except that titles aren't in the game, so the lands weren't his (the generals) in the first place. If titles aren't in, how is it decided which lands you'll get?
It sounds a bit weird to me, not sure how it will work out.

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
I suspect that if the general is in a city or castle and therefore governing it, you get the city or castle. Like I said, same as bribing him.

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
It might work like this: princess marries, has children, and her children somehow gets the throne. since he is in your family, ta-da! the empire is yours. or it might cause a secession: the ones that follow you and the ones that follow the reall royal line.

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
That would be wonderful, but I think given all the previous info on rebellions & civil wars by CA that its unlikely ~:(
The RTW family tree is a MASSIVE improvement over MTWs, unfortunately I don't think we're going to see the fighting for the throne that was such a feature of Mediaval monarchies. Imagine if you were the new Turkish Sultan, and immediately upon coming to power you had to go to war and kill all your male relatives. How cool would that be?

It's all very curious. There is the info you mention on civil wars, etc, but then there is the quote from Penny in the Missions dev diary in which she states that both other factions and individuals from other factions trying to better themselves within their own faction will give missions to you.
It may not be civil war, but as far as the diplomatic AI it's the closest thing to it.
Applying that to this thread, the advert may imply that individuals within a faction do in fact have the capacity to break off from their faction and bring their land(s) with them.
Then again, the marketing folks also stated flatly (to Soulflame?) that missions would only come from the Pope and the Council of Nobles. Penny Sweetster on the other hand, who worked as a designer on missions, states in the dev diary equally definitively that missions will come from the Pope, Guilds, the Council of Nobles, other Factions, and individuals within other factions. A pure contradiction, so I'm taking Penny's word as good and the marketeers words as unreliable at this point.
But again, we'll see.

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
I think two things will happen:
1. Either The AI will never think that you are worthy enough to marry their favourite daughter/niece/cousin/great-great-great aunt.
2. It will become ridiculously easy and people will win solely by marrying princesses for land.
Remember, historically land was granted as part of a dowry, but it was rarely on the scale of the provinces we would see in MTW2.

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
My man/bros/etc.Think a little bit.If you have a princess and you mary her you need to give mony, land, etc. to the prince you marry her.So if a princess mary your general you will get money, land and maybe troops.

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
No, it's the bride's family which hands over the cash or the lands.

Isn't that what the guy before you said?
Anyway, I still don;t think you'll actually be able to barter away your princesses for land. I think the addmakers just hope us to blow 1 line out of proportions

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
I think that princesses have but one role : getting an alliance with another faction.Though you can already achieve this through diplomacy,I think it will be alot easier to allie with a faction if you marry one of your princesses to a general of theirs. At least, that's my opinion :2thumbsup:

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
I think its just that you offer your princess in exchange for a piece of land just like how you exchanged map information for money.

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
Okay,CA,there are a lot of different views on this matter,so plz give us an official answer of how the marriage thing will work.Thank you.

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
It would be great to get a clarification on this since it's a fairly clear-cut question with multiple official "answers".
I keep telling myself they must be busy with more important things... like the demo! ~:)

Re: Marriage in exchange for territory
There's also a posibilty that you just barter with your princess
like a diplomat would in RTW, and you offer marriage, and demand land in return.
Maybe the line just meant there's a possibility to.
