Unable to Uninstall BI

I would post this in the Software/Hardware forum, but I seem to be prohibited from posting there.

Anyway, I recently discovered that I am unable to uninstall, as well as reinstall, BI. Whenever I try to, I get an error message that says:

"Error Loading C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\PROFES~1\Runtime\0701\Intel32\Ctor.dll

The specified module could not be found."

I seem to be missing the uninstaller program (or something like that)

When I looked in C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\PROFES~1\Runtime\0701\Intel32\ (minus the missing program, which if I typed in would come up with the same error message) I find one "DotNetInstaller" program created by the InstallShield Software Company, but no "Ctor.dll" obviously.

Is there anything that I can do that does not involve manually deleting all bi files?

Though It's not really urgent, I would still like someone to help me solve this problem sometime soon.

Find in the CD of BI the file, copy and paste in the directory of uninstall, and run it again

Wait, explain that in a little more detail... do you mean I should load something off the CD? I am unable to RE-install as well, if that is what you are telling me to do.

Uninstall everything you can normally, then use the Add/Remove feature from your control panel. Scan your drive's whole registry, and delete everything that you FIRMLY believe belongs to the game. If this step makes uncomfortable, download this
and run it once. It should clear things up. You may also want to run Check disk, delete some unnecessary files, and defragment your drive(all from control panel).
Check your CD or damage or dirt, shut off all security, and try to reinstall.

From what I understand, you tried to uninstall an expansion. This will screw up any game you might play, so it's generally not a good idea. BTW, my prior post always worked for any installation issues I had, but there may be less extreme methods.

I'm bad for triple posting, but this is important. When I told you "Uninstall everything you can normally", I meant for both RTW and BI.

Why? BI is dependent on vanilla rome, not vice versa, so uninstalling BI wouldn't affect the main game, right? Now, trying to unistall RTW while BI is still installed...I can see some problems arising there.

As to your earlier post, yes, I do feel somewhat nervous about what feels paramount to just wantonly going through my C:\ drive deleting things with "barbarian invasion" in the name, so I will try that program.

That program did not solve it, I cleaned every registry problem on the computer, (all 600+ of them) and still got the same error message upon trying to uninstall.

I am saying from experience that when you try to remove an expansion, several files that belong to the vanilla game may get dragged along, namely uninstall files that basically maroon the game on your system. Multiply times I have seen this Painkiller, Doom, and MTW.

I am a little confused by this line:

Oh, I never would have thought of that.

Well, most of the time, the easiest way to fix problems like the one I have is to simply go into the add/remove programs list, and then click choose to reinstall the program, which basically replaces all the old files with new ones that are almost identical (I'm sure you know this) However, I am unable to perform even this task, because the same problem that affects the uninstaller seems to have damaged the reinstall program as well.


Ok, since last Christmas I have...

bought and installed vanilla BI ( have had vanilla rome since around two years ago)

uninstalled BI in order to install Rome Total Realism

got tired of RTR, uninstalled it, and put everything back to vanilla, also reinstalled BI

installed Invasio Barbarorum: Flagellum Dei mod for BI

after having discovered several bugs with it, decided to uninstall and install another mod, or just play vanilla BI. This is when I discovered the problem.

Created this thread, and downloaded that registry cleaner program, which did not seem to work

There is a thread here on The Guild about the Invasio mod. I'd scan the thread to chech for similar problems. Otherwise you may have to remove RTW manually, although I do not recommend it at this time, especially if you're not sure what you're doing.

Ok, I just now manually deleted all RTW files, and everything seems to be working. I used the search tool, and sent all those files to the recycle bin, then reinstalled vanilla rome, and everything went fine.

OK, just for future reference to everyone:

If you want to uninstall a game that has an expansion installed to it, uninstall the core game first and then uninstall the expansion. According to the multiple manuals I have read, this appears to be the case for all games.
