Agreed. I think the half-hearted attempt to have the "goals" like in BI are what we are in store for. Ooh, as England I have to conquer 45 territories and hold Wessex...

I was a great fan of GA-mode but let's be honest, they were a little half-baked in MTW. The crusades were the best and crusades are in M2TW.
Other than that, there were few interesting GAs - the Krak De Chevaliers stands out. I suspect we will get more interesting RPG type tasks through the mechanism of missions or whatever they are going to call them in M2TW. ie like the Senate missions in RTW, but provided by guilds IIRC and with suitable carrots and sticks. IMO, the Senate missions in RTW provided more direction and motivation than the few non-crusading GAs in MTW. Let's hope all factions get some kind of missions in M2TW, not just the favoured 5 starter factions.
To be honest, aside from crusading, the main benefit of GAs in MTW was allowing you to win without having to go through the exhaustion of conquering the whole map. But the more limited M2TW victory conditions already give you that.
Yeah, I guess I somewhat forgot about the guild and Noble Council (~:rolleyes:) missions. The thing that I liked best was that you could win without having to conquer a lot of land, which I really enjoyed. The main factions had certainly the best GA goals, but even some of the smaller ones had some fun things to try to achieve (except Hungary).
But in BI, you had to conquer a bunch of territory to win, and that was the only goals you had. I wasn't so fond. And I found the Senate missions completely unnecessary for furthering the game, and I am always one of those right up front and anxious for role playing type facets in a game. In short, RTW was a real let down in that department. Hopefully M2TW will be much more like the original.
The reason I want a real, tangible GA mode is that CA isn't going to want to force players to role play, which is the whole point of goals mode. They'll have it so those who want to steamroll everything can, without having to worry about an RPG element. This in turn means that the goals will be like the Senate missions from RTW--superfluous and not important to victory conditions. Which cheapens those goals, and *probably* will mean that there will be much less time spent devising those goals. Less time spent equates to flakey window dressing. And I don't want the best part of MTW relegated to being flakey window dressing in the update.
So that's why I want GA back. Then we can have the best of both worlds again. :2thumbsup:

True, and I *do* think that the mission system will be upgraded. But what I was trying to get at is that with a concrete GA mode, you get points for accomplishing those tasks, and that furthers your quest towards winning the game. If the noble's council says "we'd like you to control as much trade in the north sea as possible," that great and you will make more money. But you will not get any points, and it will not advance you in the game. All you'll do is make the nobles happy. If you decide not to control the trade, so be it--it doesn't cost you anything (except a little money). GA mode forces those missions to be essential parts of the game, and by extension makes them more important.Quote:

I agree that CA can either make these missions superficial (you just get some money as a reward for what was a major GA in MTW) or make them substantial (there is a game mode where completing major missions can lead to victory, basicallly GA2).
Maybe I missed the info tidbit on this, but as far as I know they havent released much info on this area of the game. I think CA is well aware of the desire of the playerbase for more structured campaigns with victory conditions other than conquer everything, and Id say the only reason they'd conceivably not implement them in MTW2 would be some kind of crazy limitation in the RTW engine that prevents them from coding it in...
Well, they also decided not to bring back titles. I can't imagine was because they were unable to overcome the technical difficulties of bringing back a feature that's over a decade old. If they figured out randomized body parts, I think they could have figured out GAs and titles. I think the lack of both are gameplay decisions, which you and I may not agree with. Again, just another reason to not buy the game until you've heard enough reviews from here about whether it's worth the ~$50 or not.

While several of you may want titles and GA, realize buying the game is a individual choice. If I were people on these forums I won't listen to a single person, I mean seriously most ppl here are strangers. Talk to a friend who owns it, or test the demo, and decide if it's something you *personally* will like.
There are tons of new features, yes they took out one or two old one's but they are trying to attract new players and people first picking up this game may be confused about titles. I don't know, but I doubt CA just went, "Yes let us throw out that idea."
Needless to say it's almost Oct and game will be out in Nov, so I doubt any post suggesting things to CA will get something put in. Yes maybe in a expansion. Then again look at how few CA posts on here and you realize they arn't listening to everything. I think getting attached to any minor feature, GA or anything else is silly personally.

I definately want a GA mode, I played this mode exclusively in the original MTW, it was so much better than conquer the map...snore...and also much better than RTWs control x provinces.
RTWs system would be ok if it was incorporated into a GA system as one of the tasks
