Mr and Mrs Average Sydney
Article on the average face of Sydney through Morphing.
Quote:
THEIR faces look vaguely familiar, the kind of people you might see any Friday night at Circular Quay, heading to the pub or waiting for a ferry.
Yet the man and woman whose images will be unveiled tonight - spectacularly projected, 20 metres high, onto the side of the AMP Tower - have never existed.
Created by computer magic, morphed from 1400 portraits of real Sydneysiders, they are the human embodiment of government statistics. The official male and female Face of Sydney.
Multimedia Face of Sydney.
Interesting article on what the face of Sydney averages out to by taking 1400 residents and morphing thier pictures together.
Re: Mr and Mrs Average Sydney
cool idea, I like it :)
Hopefully racism isn't gonna be an issue. I see your point, GC, and I suspect you're right. Sadly, people should realize that this is in no way a belittling of any particular race or ethnicity, but simply the average face, which is likely a consequence of the fact that the majority of Sydney's inhabitants are white/caucasian... And it shouldn't be a big deal, or a surprise, just as a similar attempt in Africa would produce a black average, or an Asian average in some Asian country...
People should just try to enjoy things more, without splitting the hairs and looking for hidden agendas and such... and, perhaps, in some cases, even enjoying stuff and ignoring the hidden agenda even if it exists. Life's too short :)
Re: Mr and Mrs Average Sydney
Interesting; like the issue of Time/Newsweek/whatever that showed the "face of the world". They mixed all the facial features of each major(?) racial group. It made a cute green-eyed girl.

Re: Mr and Mrs Average Sydney
A bit creepy to look at the faces of people that don 't exist :dizzy2:
lol, aren't you screwed if you fall in love with one of them at first sight.
A very modern tragedy.

Kinda interested in seeing what it'd look like though.
IMO people may not be happy with the results but I doubt there would be riots. Spitting and sputtering maybe, but not riots.
I would also like to see what it would look like.
I think it would also be interesting to see it broken down more…
Average white, black, hot white, hot black, even ugly white and black would be fun, or I guess I could just go to a supermarket and look around.
im just kidding but click it anyway...

The funny thing is, that a 'hot' face is an average face. So morphing either hot, average or ugly faces would all yield an attractive face. By simply morphing enough faces, a-symmetricalities get evened out and aesthetically unpleasing features vanish.

I mean only using, for example, hot women as the “1400 portraits” of the real people they morphed together to find the average. Shouldn’t that make the average hot girl?
Alternately, using portraits of 1400 of the most ugly women (assuming the cameras don’t break~D) should create an average ugly woman, right?

Sorry, no. It was done in the early 90's. I'll try searching though.
Edit: Forget that! What year is it now?

No, as counter-intuitive as it may sound, it would create an uber-hot chick.
Assuming they each are ugly in their own right, and are not all ugly for the same reason, all individual deviations, that what makes them ugly, gets evened out.
Beauty is averageness. Features that are deemed attractive are symmetry, a conformation to the norm, a face that looks like the average of what you're used to.

Well that’s lame!
I’m going to the Babe Thread.
