Coming soon, the next Mafia!...

Hey all,

My Mafia game will be starting soon (by the end of the weekend, I promise). I apologize that it hasn't started yet, but some personal things have gotten in the way, and I haven't finished the backstory yet. In about a week and a half my schedule will clear up and I'll have more time for writing (but as I said the game will start well before this).

In the meantime, I thought I'd see if anyone wanted to have any input on the following things:

1. Game Title

I'm thinking something along the lines of Cosa Nuova: A New Mafia. Anyone else want to suggest something?

2. Game Parameters

I've learned from recent games, so I won't make the rules too complex and will structure them in such a way as to keep people as active as possible. I also plan to use my own computer simulation to make sure the game is balanced.

That said, are there any features you'd particularly like to see in this game?

Have you seen the film "Infernal Affairs", recently remade as "The Departed"? The premise is there are 2 gangs, one gang is the cops, the other is the triads. The triads have a mole in the cops, while the cops have a mole in the triads. Each is given the task of smoking the other out while maintaining their own cover.

Basically a Tom and a Jerry type of role, just like in Sasaki's game ?

Or would the moles still be able to participate in the game and feed information to their party after their counterpart is found - and killed.

That was a good movie. I don't know how it would work in a mafia game though. You'd be placing a lot of trust in the moles not to leak anything privately.

GH's rules are good. I'd say add a doctor but the town may be overpowered already.

Yeah GH's rules are good. No offense to Sasaki or Silver but I didn't really like the fact that they have so many different characters. Maybe it's just because I didn't play in the game.

Oh and Sign me up.

I actually quite liked all of the different roles in Sasaki's game. I thought they added spice, and gave the regular townies a bit more to do.

Must have been murder to organise, though.

As for parameters, I would suggest going for something like GH's rules except with slight adjustments to suit personal tastes.

I'd like to suggest the "when claiming a role you can't quote pm or post screenshots" rule.

Lots of roles... that's the way to go.

Why not make the active mafia games sticky?
I am already doing this on my client browser, but it would be nice if somebody did it for me.

Welcome Proletariat! However, I've now posted the official game thread, and I'd like signups to take place there now. Mods, please close this thread.

The game will probably start in a couple of days, once everyone has had a chance to sign up.
