So what youre saying is that if you were a game designer you wouldent be bothered about the huge difference in money you can get with simply making the game more approachable? Cuz if u are, BS, you'd do the exact same thing, and you cant blame them for not making the game exactly A-Historical, as sometimes history is boring and jazzing it up a bit can make it funner. And its ok to do so in this case, cuz after all it is a game, and thats what mods are for, so I dont think you should criticize the company for simply wanting to make a little more. And why does everybody always make it out so that CA is just now dumbing down? Cuz Shogun and medieval were definitley not completely historical, ninjas? overpowered berserkers? At least in MTW there was always a challenge... I remember playing once as the Byzantines and being locked in a constant war with the factions to my east... For the whole game i lost eastern provinces, took them back, lost them again, took them back, build an army, take it back, get defeated and think it's all over when they take my capital... Take my capital back thanks to some hired mercenaries, lose it again, get my ass whooped by the golden horde which appeared, then lose a campaign because my empire has more holes in it than swiss cheese and my last king just died...
I can't even remember having lost a campaign in Rome... Literally... I've had it what, 2 years now? Maybe a little more... Played it nonstop for a year, not so much for the second year, literally hundreds of campaigns, and never lost a single one... Never even had to worry... On average, i would lose 1 city to an enemy every 200 turns... In Medieval, i would lose on average 1 province every 5 turns...
And don't talk to my about Darth mod... Last time i played one of those, everytime i had a battle with the AI, when i moved my lines close to their ready to engage, they would swing their army around so mine would be lined up facing them, and their flank would be facing me because they just made a left swing with their entire army... Then when i went to engage they would retreat to the very edge of the map! :furious3:
You can't compare M2TW with a modification for RTW.
The AI, battle mechanics, graphics, etc.. are all superior in M2TW. Even if they are not as good as we hope, they're still better than RTW.
EB is probably the best mod for the game, but it can't touch AI or battle mechanics because it's all hardcoded.
So really the comparison is almost impossible. I'll probably get into M2TW when it comes out, and like all older games, RTW will fall in to obscurity. IF I ever do play it again it will of course be with the EB mod.
I hope it is... But i won't be rusing out to buy it as i did with RTW and BI... I'm disheartened after their last poor attempt at a historical strategy game which was RTW... Thank the flying spaghetti monster we have EB to work hard on it for 2+ years and do the job CA should have done.
EB has alot of deph. The inner struggles of MTW can be simulated in EB with the trait system.
Tribal affiliation, ethnicity, city of birth, class, ambitions, beliefs, etc. MTW2 could bring back the loyalty of your Knights/Vassals, but even that isn't as complete as EB's traits. This General is disloyal, but why? What does he want? What does he believe in? Why can't he be at terms with the King? You just won't know. Could it be that he is from a rivalling family and believes in ruthless conquest and colonization instead of the benign and liberal rule of your enlightened despot King?
Characters in EB are alive, if you could load them in a holo-deck and the computer interpreted the traits into the hologram's programming they would be perfect immitations and more complete than Voyager's doctor.
We don't know yet, but if it seems possible to port EB over to MTW2, if there are more advantages than disavantages, more to gain than to loose, it should be done. I can't imagine how delicious it would be to have the Loyalty-revolting of MTW2 with EB's trait system.
Talk about tribal rivalry, instability, fragile unity. It's the Barbarian faction's wet dream.
I'll be sticking with EB, if for no other reason than that I'm a Roman history freak. I never played the prior TW games, and until RTW I hadn't played an RTS (whew, them's some acronyms...) since Starcraft. That said, if 0.8 doesn't precede MTW2 by a decent margin, say a month, I fear it'll lose a large part of its audience.
Pffft. I don't have the money for MTW 2. Or the interest, really. I doubt it will be nearly as fun to play as EB, though of course it will probably be prettier from a purely asthetic point of view. So are paper dolls.
I can't say anything for anybody else, since I'm no telepath...

M2TW might run some of us the cost of the game plus new computer parts. My current rig might beable to run the thing on lowest settings. But that's hardly appealing.
So until I get a new computer, I'm not going to buy m2tw. I bought RTW with a rig that couldn't run it well. For the first 2 months I played the game on low settings with a choppy campaign map. Not worth it.
That's true... I don't even know if i'll be able to run it on medium... I will be able to if there's an option to turn off non-essential extras like dirty soldier faces and things like that.
Waw an other post like this, well I think EB will be still very good after MTW 2 release, personaly I still play shogun and MTW 1 sometimes despite the old graphics they're great game and have a special ambience. And the fact is that EB is the RTW mod (with RTR but it is different) who has the greatest ambience and antiquity feeling, in it's actual form EB isn't so challenging compared to some mods but it's still fine to play it when you roleplay your caracters you have the feeling to write a real story and I like to read other people AAR when played with EB because of this something that is realy missing in RTW vanilla.
I've tested MTW 2 demo recently on a computer were I can run RTW a full settings and Oblivion quite well (we all know of this game only like NASA PCs :wall: ) I was forced to play on low settings to have a fluid battle, so... RTW still has some months to live after MTW2 release I think, not everybody can buy a new computer.

Everyone should buy BI just for Invasio Barbarorum and Arthurian. They are that good. And the vanilla campaign is okayish.
