Substitute for the Total War Series...

I'm pretty sure you guys have seen my Rome:Total War thread concerning if RTW has a Mac version.
From the things Ive been reading and seeing, I doubt that a version exists.

I don't think CA has any plans to deliver at least Rome to their CA fans who are on a Mac. I've read on another forum that a guy sent an email to CA concerning my topic and they sent him back an email saying that they have no further plans in bringing it to the Mac.
If that's the case, is there any similar games to the whole Total War experience, something close to the likes of MTW or RTW?
I know that Age of Empires II is a close brethren to Total War.
As well as Civilizations.
Is there any other games that you guys can think of?

I think there's a windows emulation software for the mac. Not positive, but if so, you'd be able to run TW.

As for games similar to TW. Koei's Romance of the three Kingdoms is similar but only for PS2.

Civilization is a good turn based world builder. Pretty good after the expansion pack.

Europa Universalis is a good strategy game, though with extremely limited graphics.

I think there's a new Star Wars and Star Trek RTS games.

Age of Empires is a decent RTS.

Warcraft is a good RTS.

There's a new game called Guild 2 or something where you run a dynasty. Mixing medieval business with Mate finding and politics. Could be a good game from what it looks like. Though the developer isn't known for supporting it's games unfortunately.

Those are all I can think of right now. dunno if any of those are for mac to be honest.

JoWood likes to hold back on patches. When they do have a patch, they release "beta patches" which never work. Europa 1400 still does not have a final patch.

There are games for the MAC and certainly also class games, but many games are not ported or very slowly.

There are indeed emulators for the MAC, but I doubt it will be a good solution for demanding games. Emulation eats CPU time and hardware may be missing (though todays MAC have much better -compatibility- gfx cards than I had.

If you like to play games, especially ones like RTW, you better opt to buy some PC hardware. It's your wallet of course, but even a cheap box will do the trick. A monitor hub (KVM) will allow you to use your MAC monitor on both your PC and MAC. If you don't play fast shooters, you can use the same to hub your keyboard and mouse. The Intel Core2Duo forced other hardware to drop in price.

Here's a link to start reading about emulators. Perhaps your MAC is very muscled and can handle it for you. There are freeware versions.

I've never used it but in principal at least `Battleground 3` looks the same. BG3 however is Napoleonic era but i'd imagine BG1/2 would be medieval or romanic.:beam:

Releasing software, even porting, is expensive. There aren't as many customers for MAC games as PC (of course there are several, but much more for PC). MAC platform would be nice for games, but it's more used for creative work (graphics, websites, music). Many MACs never executed a bit of gamecode, because their owners don't play games.

Correct Tosa.. MAC's are mostly used for Businiess (or some Entertainment) Like Graphic Design, Music,Web Design,etc....

Mostly MAC's don't even play games on their comps, Since MAC users are very small. And the Ones that do Play games on their MAC, are even smaller, so Game Companies Need not (in their thoughts) to transfer over.. Best Of just getting Windows XP Home/Professinal Editon..

Anyone heard of Legion Arena? Well since its a Mac specific game I think, maybe the Mac users have tried it or seen it.
All I can say about it for now is that its based during the Roman period, can't tell when though.
I kinda lost interest into the whole fantasy medieval RTS's, Im more of a history buff. :yes: but Warcraft III n Frozen Throne are still notable games in my taste as well as Age of Mythology.

But if CA can find someone to do that, no matter how long it takes to import Rome to Mac, that would be dearly appreciated from all your Mac brethren.

The demo mentions 100's of years. Hannibal and Vercingetorix are in. Looks to me as if it's about the the foundation of Rome in 8th century BC- ~ Julius Caesar.

Would you have a link to a Legion Arena review?
It looks pretty good, but you can only play as the Romans or Gaul.
Which is downside cause I was looking for some diversity in the selection.
The customization of your army is a nice touch tho.

^^ That's why it'll never get released for OSX, or Linux. Combine that with the fact that, TW games are built for DirectX and not OpengGL, and your looking at a big no. Sadly if you won't to do any kind of serious gaming, you're stuck with Win32 for the forseeable future.

EU II eh? I read of review of it, its pretty good from what I hear. Its like RISK on crack. But thats all that is. Its freaking great that you can choose to play 180 countries. 180! :yes: wow
But all the screenshots that I've seen were like maps off of RISK.
I was expecting at least for a battle screen like of Medieval Total War.
But the battles all take place on the map.
Its a really deep game, maybe even TOO DEEP cause of all the factors involved. But if tactical battle scenes were included, I'd be out and getting it already. Sadly, all battles depend on how many guys you have and how their morale is doing. If CA were to hook up with these developers of EUII, we have total ownage here.

That's one CD indeed. But it contains two different installs for MAC and PC.
It's still different code.

If you have the money, you should get one of the new Intel-based Macs. This way you can build a duel boot system. Basically, when the computer starts up you choose Windows or Mac to start up in. It lets you play any game on any computer platform.

It's not so much that they were both Mac and Windows users. It's more the fact that when they started, Macs were the primary computer gaming platform. As time went on Blizzard has kept catering to its old fans by releasing Mac versions of their games. Any company can do it, but only a few can actually profit from it. A new start up game company wouldn't be able to do that.

Yea. I am still suprise to see people wanting to Use MAC's for games instead of Windows.

Age of Empires is a good Series,to comment on one of the earielr posts here,FYI..

Yup, but the only downside is that there is no tactical battle map, like in MTW. It more resembles the game of RISK.
One great 'country' to play in the beginning of the game is the Byzantine Empire in 1420 i think. You can actually beat the Ottoman Turks who have you totally surrounded. I mean TOTALLY SURROUNDED, you have about 50000 or more able soldiers in your remaining provinces, while the Turks have 100000 in Rum and around 40000 in Greece.
Since your in Byzantine lands, better get crackin with the heavy kataphracts sine they own on the plains around Asia Minor.

It's not just Blizzard that does that. Sports Interactive do it for Football Manager.
