New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
Dont know if you have heard it before but there is a new movie coming out. From the creators of SIN CITY and based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, "300" concerns the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians. You can check the extended trailer here (twice as long as the standard one) . It seems as one hell of a movie ...Coming in the Fall of 2007 i think...
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer

Well it's based on a comic book. And from the trailer, it's not a historical movie at all.
And you can see the HD trailer here:

Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
so what if it is unhistorical or based on a comic book?
From what i can see on the trailer, it KICKS ASS!:smash:
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer

Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
Ok, I'm officially freaked out. :fainting:
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
Is it really that hard to make a good "300 Spartans" movie?

I know; the first one was so cheesy 50's style and this one is, well...
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
I just want to see an actual historical version for once. Not one with wierd mutants and monsters and flying spartans, and Persians that look nothing like what they should look like.....
....and that bald egyptian looking guy better not be Xerxes! :furious3:

Agreed. Now if someone were to produce a movie based on Steven Pressfield's novel Gates of Fire, that would make very happy indeed.
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
The trailer :thrasher:, but i'd much rather it be historically accurate without all the fantasy crap. Aas long as there's still a lot of action:charge:
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
Some of the coments here beg for a response. The response will be in a new thread titled: "History and the movie 300".
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
"Our arrows will blot out the sun"
"Then we will fight in the shade…"
I'm guessing its not historical, but damn I love all that.
Big fan of Sin City, and hadn't heard of this 300 until reading this thread so Big thanks to K3nsai !
Having read the alternative thread regarding the Historical comments, I personally enjoy that which is historical, and found that thread very interesting. :book:
I do find that I can put my historical expectations aside however to enjoy this kind of stylised version, so I feel I can get alot of my tastes quenched by this film. :2thumbsup:

Actually, that's supposedly a real quote; although as I'm no historian, I cannot personally verify its authenticity. I believe that particular line is generally attributed to a Spartan officer named Dienekes(sp?).
I still don't think I can bear to watch this movie. I envy those of you who can separate your appreciation of history from your love of entertainment, and will therefore be able to view the film on its own merits. I just don't think I'm going to be able to do the same.
What's ironic is that that I'm the same guy that loves Braveheart, despite its many historical inaccuracies. ~
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
i saw the preview for that movie it looked alright

Well at least Braveheart looks realistic and historic. It doesn't have mutants, and William Wallace doesn't fly or shoot lightning bolts. ~D

:laugh4:
You have a singular wit, Bopa.
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
Well it is a line from the movie braveheart when he talks about the myth around his character being ten foot tall and having lightning bolts come out his backside...
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
well look at this if you have historical doubts. and if you dont know about it just read this.
Thermopylae, Wikipedia
Re: New "300" Spartans Extended Movie Trailer
Wow,
I'm almost at the point of saying well atleast they didn't have the three hundred be athenian. no armor, no allies, no real greek fighting style, no helots the bizzare way the persians are shown. It'll be good for what it is a movie but they should have made gates of fire not this.
but there is some good ol ancient hypocracy "THIS IS A NEW AGE OF FREEDOM"
for slave owners(a historical compliant) and that good aweful killing of the diplomat in the great hole of doom (wish it was in the sparta historical battle, have pyhros fall into that
still it'll be good for what it is, violent, and well directed
:juggle2: will it succeded?
