Get the *&!&£*%^" off my land!!!!

Im seriously baffled by the sorry state that the very hard difficulty of the game is...
Its like ME vs the world!!! No alliances, no diplomacy...
And where is the option to get the eff off my land? Cause the I have the Hungarians standing with a stack outside Sofia in my Byzantine campaign and I cant get them out without breaking a war...
Which by the way breaks out after 7 turns in any attempt to start a campaign,
the sickening feeling that Im playing a Age of Total War bastardization where the Venetians hold Crete at 1080 (oh in which case there are NO dates just some "RTS" like "turns") just gets stronger and stronger...
And the whole reputation thing? Whats about that? It makes NO difference to the "AI" the Venetians backstabbed me and the Hungarians happily allied with them despite the "Very Unstrustworthy" parameter...
The game is challenging on the economical and campaign level, still the battle AI is dumb as rock Ive defeated a Venetian army double my size half of which were feudal and mailed knights with me measily militias...
I just hope that EB2 or another decent mod comes out to make a Total War game out of a AoE clown...

Ive noticed that in my Spanish campaign. I had kicked the Moores out of Spain and allied to them. Ten turns went by, and suddenly Portugal suddenly attacks me from both sides, followed by France (despite France being at war with the HRE and England, they somehow produced a full stack to send after me.). The Moores then start blockading my ports and I see three half-stacks heading my way.
However, Lisbon is mine now, so Portugal may consider a treaty.

You also got simultaneously attacked by the Portugese and France on the same turn? Happened to me, and then his Holiness became annoyed because I took out a French fleet. They attacked first!

I'd also love to see a "Get off my land" diplomatic option.

What bugs me is that in every game I play, Spain and the Moores ally in the first five turns nearly ninety percent of the time.
I mean, what do they do? Sit around campfires talking about how they would make each others children eat their own intestines?

Well guys, it aint Medieval 2: Total Peace, is it?

That's what happens on Very Hard campaign. Part of what makes it "very hard" is that everybody hates you. That's the main reason why I don't play there. I usually stick with Hard.

QFT. I'm doing a campaign as the Sicilians and I have 5 very faithful allies (and I have the "respectable reputation". No wonder, I defied the HRE Pope by not going on a crusade against Milan.)

yea i have to agree this is no different to Rome in this respect. playing on higher difficulties u are always at war with everyone. I mean i was playing my armenian campaign the other day (M2tW still not out in aussie) and the egyptians were getting owned by the scippi, yet they still found time to send several full stack armies at me, and left there borders with the scippi completely undefended.

But yes, most of the time u will find its u VS everyone else.

Okay guys, I understand all the arguments about being a war game. But I'm playing MTW on medium as HRE. And after 40 rounds I'm getting attacked on all frontiers. All of them. It's so damn hard, i can't belive it.
And I played RTW on very hard with no greater issues. But this kills my game.

I think a number of people have posted regarding the tendency of the HRE to recieve this type of attention on most any setting, and in the MTW original there is a disclaimer on the difficulty of the faction as well as the setting, and the HRE is def not one of the ones with the 'easier than your setting" comment.

Oddly, this feature and the religious order knights up there are reasons I put the HRE in the top 5 of factions to play first. Good luck!

The HRE will always get ganged up on. They have borders with France, Denmark, Poland, Milan, Venice, and Hungary. Not to mention the fact that they are not on the best of terms with the Pope.

However, I agree with you that it is rather sad that it seems that you always get ganged up on no matter what faction you play.

Oh good it's Hellenes. I was in dire need of a rational, reasonable perspective on the game.

Playing as the HRE on medium, I have not seen this effect. Despite having poor defenses in the north and east, the Danes, Poles and Hungarians have so far honoured their alliances with me. The Venetians tried a sneak attack, probably egged on by that damn pope, but this has been my only war 50 turns into the game. The French are none too friendly though, since I'm allied with England, the Milanese are looking at my recently conquered Venice with their greedy little eyes, and the Danes have just gone to war with the Poles, so something is bound to happen soon.

I too would like a "declare war or get the hell out!" diplomacy option, especially for the Catholics who really can't afford to get into too many wars as the aggressor.

Here, here.

I find that when your military or overall strength surpasses your neighbours your deemed a threat, and an easy one to attack if your already in a war.

Many nations will eat humble pie and pay the money for a truce if they are besieged on another front tho.

I've found the thieves guild houses 'seem' to be great for divining the nations intent, I was at war with Eygpt after a successful crusade to Anitoch and was beset on all sides by them ... then the Mongols arrived and the Eygptians were begging for peace ... the Mongols took Jerusalem and another crusade is set for there and I take it with a crusade army from Antioch, lose it and then the Mongols sue for peace becuase of their wars with Eygpt.

Both times the 'Intent' bit in the diplomatic exchanges showed as peace. Thieves guild was in Antioch.
