Impact of Vassel

What is the impact of either you or the computer being a vassel. I see that it does give trade rights and military access for both. Additionally anyone at war with the vassel but allied to the overlord will have a ceasefire pushed on them by the game.

There is a big bonus in that it can get you out of the bad side of a loss by accepting to be someone's vassel. I assume if you attack them later your trustworthyness across the world drops, but if you are about to be defeated it is nice to have this offer come from the Nation that is crushing you.

I am guessing you can't win the game if you are someone's vassel, but was wondering if there were any other drawbacks or impacts.

The AI tends to not break the Vassalship by attacking for a longer amount of time than a normal alliance, But everytime i accepted to be a vassel, they ended up attacking me.

You can get some nice cash out of battering when they demand your vassalship

I'm not sure of how the vassalship works out, but I have just persuaded the English into becoming my vassal. Now I agreed to pay tribute (about 7.500) a turn for 3 turns, as I wondered what it was and I wanted to try it out.

Now it seems that nothing has happened except I'm at peace with England - except that my income skyrocketed..???

Now, I'm supposedly paying 7.500 florins a turn, but instead my income is up by maybe 10-12k florins. Do I receive England's income? Is it a bug? What happened?

Your income going up is very interesting. I don't think mine dropped when I became Byzantines Vassel.

Also is your income way up from trade that you are now doing with your old enemy.

It probably takes a test to see which numbers have changed from before and after.

Maybe the vassel does not get a penalty but the overlord gets a nice bonus.

I don't think that trade alone can answer the income increase as England only has 2 cities left. I don't really understand it.. maybe some investigation into how my income is calculated is required.

I don't know if it's the same as Protectorates in RTW. In RTW, becoming a Protectorate gave alliance and military access to both parties. The client wasn't supposed to be able to break the agreement (though it did happen in the game), and if the client had over 15K denarii in the treasury then they wound up paying tribute to the patron of the relationship.
