What do i need to build in order to train janisary heavy infantary?

It's the first time I've played as the Turks and I'm totaly unfamiliar with there tech tree( My tech tree fell to pieces many moons ago) Even better does any one know were I can down load the hole thing?

In MTW+VI, you need to have built a Master Spearmaker and a Military Academy (which has a Grand Mosque as a prerequisite). Also, JHI are not available before the High and Late periods (this may vary if you're playing vanilla MTW).
Note that you can normally only have a single Grand Mosque in your empire. There's a game exploit that allows multiple Military Academies: build one Grand Mosque, then start the Military Academy. Then you can destroy the first Grand Mosque, and start another in a different province. When it is done, build another Military Academy, rinse and repeat.

Just curious, does the rule about "only 1 Grand Mosque" also translate to the Catholic factions and the building of Cathedrals?

and do you need a Cathedral to build a University (and thence a Military Academy) or am I misreading the tree there?

The Catholics and Orthodox have a different prerequisite for the MA, a government building. Chancelerry, possibly?
However the MA is pretty useless to anyone except the Turks. They don't provide any units, but they provide a discipline bonus according to the description. I have no idea how that affects the units, though.

Units that are Disciplined will ignore routers, unless the routers themselves are Disciplined or Elite. It's a minor bonus of only minimal value, at least in my experience.

Disciplined units need to be trained with caution. If you trained discplined peasants for example, and they rout, they'll take other disciplined and elite units with them. It's a good idea to make well upgraded non-elite spear units discplined, as this helps you to hold the line when the Urban Militias, archers and Horse Archers are routing. Janissary archers are a death trap for this. If they get flanked and decimated and begin to rout, then your other janissaries may do a runner at the critical moment. It also seems pointless to have a building that makes disciplined units, but the only units it can train are Ottoman Janissaries, and they are elite already.

While I concede you have a point, I still find units that are Disciplined to be of only limited value. In addition, spending the time and money needed to build the Military Academy hardly seems worth it in most cases.

Yes, they are of limited use, that's pretty much what I was saying. Disciplined spears and that's it. And by the time you've upgraded to a Military Academy it'll possibly be the high to late period and you'll probably have loads of more capable units anyway, so there's not much point. If someone modded the Military Academy to not depend on the Grand Mosque or University but just the Fortress then it may be slightly more useful... to say the Byzantine, who by chance have a Citadel in Constantinople that won't take much upgrading... and who have a lack of good spears... ~;)

Agreed. If the Military Academy was dependent on just the fortification, it might be more worthwhile. It would be even better if one only needed a Citadel or maybe even a Castle to build it--except that would give the Turks a bit too much of an edge, as they could then train Janissary troops just about anywhere and spam them like nobody's business. ~:rolleyes:

Yes, with the mod I'm working on the Military Academy will only depend on the Fortress, and not the Fortress and Grand Mosque or Fortress and University as it does in vanilla (so multiples will be easily possible). Janissaries will not gain valour bonuses from any provinces (Bulgaria and Georgia bonuses removed), and will also be restricted to the Late period only and only trainable in their homeland provinces (an area roughly equivalent to the Asia Minor portion of the Ottoman Empire comprising of Greece, Bulgaria, Constantinople, Nicaea, Trebizond, Anatolia, Rum, Lesser Armenia, Armenia and Georgia).

Sounds restrictive but if we were doing it historically they'd be only trainable in Constantinople during the Late period, and the Grand Mosque and Military Academy would both still be required.
