Sallying out when under siege + fighting a field battle
In campaign I heard when you're besieged you can sally out and fight a field battle outside city walls. How do you do this?
When I select all units in city, and atack the siegers I just end up in city walls, ai with no siege equipment, and us sitting there. I then have to drag units out of city walls and redeploy.
Re: Sallying out when under siege + fighting a field battle
That's how it's intended as far as I can tell. You're doing it right.
I noticed though that when the AI sallies, I do have my equipment.
When I sally out, the equipment the AI has built is not on the battlefield.
Where do they hide that siege towers? :smash:

Re: Sallying out when under siege + fighting a field battle
That's the point of sallying out, to attack the siegers before they can build lots of siege equipment.
Just don't lose a sallying battle, because I'm pretty sure that if you do, you lose the city as well.
Re: Sallying out when under siege + fighting a field battle
Absolutey, its a huge advantage if you can catch the enemy army before they bring in ladders etc. I was able to defend Antioch from the Monguls five times with zero casualties because I sallyed forth before they were able to get siege equipment.
Re: Sallying out when under siege + fighting a field battle
Er, but couldn't you do that in Rome?
I thought that this was a new feature, where you fight a field battle outside city walls, as in you can deploy outside city walls.
Obviously I'm mistaken, apolgies :shame:
Re: Sallying out when under siege + fighting a field battle
If you attack the seiging army with a relief army then you can fight a field battle and your units inside the castle will arrive as reinforcements. Otherwise no you cant deploy outside the walls when you sally forth.
