Re: Refresh rates and nVidia
it's normally under advanced options in your display settings (screen where you set resolution-advanced option, second tab I believe).
Re: Refresh rates and nVidia
Howdy,
I have a 7800GS and I can set the refresh rate in the 7800 right-click/properties/ advanced/ screen as well as in standard right-click properties.
Do you not have the same options with your 7600 card?
Mine peaks at 75Mhz with my Viewsonic Vx922 LCD. 60Mhz is the only other option.
Re: Refresh rates and nVidia
refresh rates are not set per resolution they're set per resolution and colour depth. e.g. 1024*768*32bpp@85Hz
This basically means that setting 85Hz at the desktop for this won't affect 1024*768*16bpp which could still be at 60Hz. You should set all of your refresh rates manually from the desktop and see if that fixes it. If that doesn't work then you should be able to set the default refresh rate from the registry.

Since you have an LCD, you might want to check the manual.
My Benq FP71V runs best at 60 Hz and there is no flickering with LCDs anyway, when I had it set to 75 I had some strange artifacts in some videos IIRC.

Check the manual? You mean, like, read the instructions? :inquisitive:
Well, there's a first time for everything I guess...
Re: Refresh rates and nVidia
Thank you all for your help.
However, the problem is still there. I know how to set the refresh rate in general, and I know that it's linked with resolution & color setting. But, with ATI, you have a built-in function with their drivers which forces all fullscreen applications, such as games, to use the refresh rate which you have set for the desktop (somebody with an ATI card could perhaps write down what the exact name of that option is - I don't have those drivers any more). In effect, this means that any game you open, at any resolution or color setting, will be displayed at the chosen refresh rate. This was nice, and very kind to my eyes too, but I cannot seem to achieve that with nVidia and their drivers. So, if anybody knows how to do it, I would appreciate the help. If it has to be done in the registry, would you please be so kind to tell me how, i.e. where I can edit it?
edit: Manually switching between different desktop resolutions and refresh rates didn't help either - once I start the game at that same resolution, it again reverts to 60Hz...
Cheers,

You need to change the default refresh rate from the registry. Read this guide:

Re: Refresh rates and nVidia
Just checked on my computer at work (because thats where I am) which has an old Nvidia Ti4800SE with old drivers. There is a "refresh rate override" section in the Nvidia control panel (which is in 'right-click/properties/ advanced/'). I can set the refresh rate for any resolution or leave it for the application tho choose. But it sounds like helpful bods down at nvidia driver HQ have got rid of that option:no:
Re: Refresh rates and nVidia
Well, if you have the newer drivers, it's in the NVidia Control Panel -> display settings -> resolution settings, if I translated that correctly.

Should look like this only in english.
Re: Refresh rates and nVidia
My EU2 flickers at 75Mhz. :dizzy2:
I oughta try 60 to see if it helps.

It appears that nvidia removed the 'refresh rate overrides' tab from their control panel a while ago, but thankfully you can put it back, just go here

Re: Refresh rates and nVidia
I used the method suggested by Placid Tramp, and this fixed the problem! It seems kind of silly that nVidia would remove such a handy option from their drivers, but at least they themselves offer a way to bring it back.
Thank you very much for that hint, Placid Tramp, and, once again, thank you all for your help!
Cheers,

I've noticed that some games, which don't have refresh rates offered as part of the in-game video/graphic options, set the refresh rate to 60Hz for some reason instead of sticking to the 85Hz that I otherwise use, which means that I can either forget them or play them in a windowed mode (neither of which is very good). I tried setting the override in DirectX, but this doesn't to help either.
I have a GeForce 7600GT card running on WinXP, LG F920P CRT monitor, and the latest drivers installed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Good old bug with nVidia cards...
Instal and download Riva Tuner and fix refresh rate.:book: That will solve your problems.
