Seems that life imitates art from time to time. Mind you, it does rather prove my earlier point that most people can't tell the difference between satirical representations and actual Kazakhs.

Borat makes life tough for Kazakh TV crew

A genuine TV reporter crew from Kazakhstan found covering the recent US elections something of a struggle.

A TV crew from Kazakhstan's Channel 31 was in Columbus to make a documentary on the US political system.

But the crew got a wary reception from press secretaries who feared public humiliation by Sacha Baron Cohen.

It didn't help that the Kazakh cameraman's first name was 'Bolat', reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cohen's 'Borat' movie - featuring a fake Kazakh TV reporter humiliating Americans - was then No 1 at the box office.

Press secretaries for both Republican and Democratic parties were suspicious enough to verify their credentials with the US State Department.

"They were really adamant that they were not Borat," said Ohio Democratic Party press secretary Randy Borntrager.

State Department officials who supervised the TV crew's two-week trip say they got apprehensive phone calls wherever they went. Even the FBI called to make sure the crew was legitimate.

"The timing of this was not good for the TV crew, because a lot of people thought they weren't for real," said George Santulli, the State Department official who oversaw their trip.

I feel sorry for that poor news crew. Timing is everything.

The thing that really gets me is that Cohen is so very obvious in what he's doing and most of the dolts he fools can't even don't see it. It really doesn't speak very well of the intelligence of the average American. If we are so easily misled by someone as obviously satirical as Cohen, then I guess it's no wonder that we are so easily misled by our politicians.

And yes, most people here couldn't pick Kazakstan out on a map, despite its being the second largest of the ex-Soviet republics, after Russia itself. I suppose that's why most people here weren't as offended as I was when our Idiot-in-Chief referred to Africa as a country. :inquisitive:

You have to understand how he operates though. He'll come in and act like a regular guy and ask normal questions for an hour and then start throwing in weird questions.

Wow, DA. When did I say everyone else is an idiot? Refer me to the proper post and I'll correct it ASAP. Did the comment cut a little too close to the mark for you? Oh! I get it. Until you saw this thread, you thought the Borat movie was a documentary, didn't you? Now you're feeling rather more stupid than usual and lashing out. I forgive you.
