Obsessive milanese nobles? Or simply bug.
Playing as Milan. In turn 4 (after having allied to some other factions) I only manage to get trade rights from the HRE.
Turns 5, the nobles ask me to send an emissary to deal with the new civilization, the HRE. At fist I was simply surprised, I sent an emissary, exchanged maps and got the 500fl.
Turns 6-13, repeat ad nauseam. The emissary is sitting beside an HRE castle and gives them the maps for free every turn (getting 500fl. from the nobles every time).
Re: Obsessive milanese nobles? Or simply bug.
Sounds more like an exploit. The AI gives you missions to go make contact with other factions whenever one of your envoys gets near one of their capitals, on the assumption that your diplomat will keep moving around.
Re: Obsessive milanese nobles? Or simply bug.
The diplomat tried to move ahead, after all I had already settled an agreement with the HRE, however, the second time I received the mission, he was the nearest one, so I sent him back again.
Anyway, the "repetitive mission" stopped now and a new one has arised with the same milanese nobles. Whenever I see a rebel city they ask me to take it and offer units of the best kind. So now the loop is even better, I conquer, they give me 4 heavy cavalry and they ask me to get the next rebel city. As I don't lose nearly as much units during an invasion, I have more and more free units every turn.
I've taken 3 consecutive cities in this manner and I now have the gratest army. The only problem is paying them all, but with both exploits or bugs together, this game is starting a bit too easy.
This is in H/H (my last was N/N, Spain). Battle is harder, strategy can be harder, but nobles are certainly helping a lot.

Does anyone else find Milan , when played by the AI, backstabbing SOB's?
Good for you Zanshin that you've found a way to make Milan legit. But at the same time, I can't say there is any faction that I hate more than Milan.
Both on my English Campaign (long) and my current French Campaign (long) Milan has knifed me in the back and, in the case of the French, sacked my capital. Of course Milan was allied with me at the time, then as soon half of my army was haflway across the mediteranean on a Crusade to Jerusalem, Milan strikes and takes three of my cities and one Castle in 2 turns.
I was furious.
I was in the red, about to lose the game when under the Pope scroll it became available to call a crusade. I called one on Milan(Capital city), licked my wounds and Louie the Merciless took back Paris, putting me back in the game economically and militarily.
Then I proceeded to take back Rheims, Dijon, Marsaille and moved onto ot new territory like Metz, Milan and Genoa. Florence is there last outpost. I will crush them today.
I now am the richest faction, the strongest faction and the most advanced faction.
