Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
I got C&C The first Decade a few weeks ago, and had fun with some the older titles, then I tried Generals. I loved playing on Generals Zero:Hour so I decided to try out multiplayer. I hated Red Alert 2 multiplayer, as it was extremely laggy. I mean, 1000 ping? That's just awful. So I played my first multiplayer game on Generals. I did awful, because while everyone was making thousands of tanks, no matter what I did, I never got the funds. I was Air force general, and my aircraft was slaughtered. I have a defensive attitude, so apparently I'm a "noob" to the other players. Second game, I was Tank general. Once again, they had thosands of soldiers while I had a handful of tanks. I was flamed contineusly, and my teammate left me to die. I was getting really, really annoyed. Third game, I had enough. I had choen the super weapon general., because she was for defensive players, so it suited me perfectly. I built too much stuff, which meant that I couldn't build a supply center, which meant I was already dead. My "teammate" said I was a noob for picking Super Weapon General. That was the last straw for me. I "alt-f4"ed, anddecided I wouldn't even bother doing multi for the other C&C games. Utter disapointment for me. Ah well, I'll stick to campaign and skirmish, where the AI is smarter than your usual General player.
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
I've been a long-time C&C fan (though never much one for multiplayer) and I'm reluctant to go anywhere near Generals after playing through it once. It's not a bad game per se, but I find it difficult to like it, especially online.
Red Alert 2 laggy though? Can't say I agree, I found Red Alert 2 to be one of the most enjoyable multiplayer experiences in the RTS genre. It's cheesy, and it's gameplay lacks the gravity of something like StarCraft, but the online community was pretty healthy and the game itself eminently playable and fun, albeit not very intellectual for a strategy title. That was all a few years ago in the game's heyday though, guess things will have changed since then.

Hehe, playing RTS games online can be a real pain, I am usually quite hesitant there.
But you may want to try and open a game called "1vs1 noobs" or so, that might help until you figure out how to play the game.:beam:
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
I hate RTS multiplayer games. RTW was just as bad.
Prefer FPS games. Less exploiting game mechanics in a memorised manor, more skill.
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
I like both, but not TW games for multiplayer.
For a really good (and I mean perfect - bliss) multiplayer game get
Age of Empires III
For a good C&C style multiplayer:
Act of War
I highly reccommend both these games above. They are VERY good RTSs both of them.
For a good FPS, try Battlefield 2. Not 2142 it sounds like a pile.
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
To be successful with RTS online you need to optimise your build order to be able to pump out units fast. Also, going on the defensive means that you are allowing your opponent to build up with little difficulty, which is fairly bad as you will always lose in the long run if you are still fairly new.
I used to play C&C RA2 online a fair bit, it was fun.
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
on C&C games you've gotta do a few things:
1. Build loads of ore trucks (or equilavent money making thingys) and always have a protected money making area as a back up when you are under attack
2. Build only the best defense buildings with power plants in a corner somwhere surrounded by surface-air guns
3. build up only the best tanks you have, occasionaly making raids with aircraft to destroy your enemies their ore trucks
4. send nearly all your troops at the enemy base, after you have a sizable army, while building more tanks back at your base and focus on that once base for as long as possible destroying power plants and ore facilities etc
i hear that on generals the chinese rule, the americans suck and the freedom fighter type guys are just hilarious... unfortunately i haven't played generals that much (i'm just giving you my experience from previous games)
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
Anyone tried C&C Renegade Online?
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
I did, but it was long ago and somewhat laggy.
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
Dawn of war on the web is pretty good (theres the occansianal "twat" but other wise good) Warcraft 3 FT can be good, just try keep up with everyone elses tech level

Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
That sucks that you had such a bad experience, I guess their online community is not refined.

A few that have impressed me:
Call of Duty or Call of Duty 2, they're just great.
Castle Wolfenstein, has pretty impressive multiplayer.
Call of Duty 3, pretty much a copy of Castle Wolfenstein's multiplayer. However, only if you have an XBOX 360.
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
@Rythmic, I recommended for people not to get Battlefield 2142.
Re: Ugh, I hate C&C Multiplayer....
RTS games tend to be all about build orders/routines and fast clicking in MP, totally uninteresting to me...
