Killzone:Liberation, awesome.

Take Gears of War, the old Crusader games, add strategical depth and you have Killzone: liberation. I also liked the fps game, but this one is much much better. Can't believe the psp can chew this, the graphics and sound are amazing, and it even uses Havok for that extra ooomph when you are raining death on the Helgast forces. It takes a while to get used to the controls, and it kinda hurts that you cannot remap your keys, but other then that a fantastic game for the psp that can be hellishy challenging at times.

Well, on a smaller screen the textures may indeed look a bit better than the wishy-washy I see in those screenshots.~;)

I know it's a handheld, but the textures simply have not much detail, I'm just saying the graphics chip of that handheld has about the same quality/power of a 1999 desktop graphics chip.
It looks better if I zoom out to 50% so that the pics are smaller, but the detail is still not there.:juggle2:

You got that kind of smoke effects on a 1999 graphics chip ? Sorry, I like bashing the PSP as much as the next guy, but these graphics are certainly above '1999' level. Games like half life or System Shock looked a whole lot worse than that.
Besides, as Fragony pointed out, it's on a hand held !

I wonder how long the battery lasts when playing a game like this though.

IMO the awesomeness of the DS is mostly due to its backwards compatibility, there aren't that many truelly great DS games out either. If they can keep the PSP alive long enough for it to build up a decent library it might still have a fighting chance (or the PSP2 will if Sony is ever crazy enough...).

That said, the DS plays Castlevania, Fire Emblem and Advance wars games. It wins.

If you like retro gaming, that is actually the most valid reason to get a psp, as it is a more then serviceable ROM player. Speaking of System Shock, someone is actually porting it to the PSP, how awesome is that. Get a 1 gig memorycard, go to the underdogs, and grab what you can.

And no truly great DS games??

I only have Castlevania and Advance Wars actually, and both are just continuations of gba series (with little to no difference), other games like Mario and Yoshi's Island seem to follow the same trend. I was intrested in picking up Phoenix Wright, but then i'm not sure if i'll like that, and *if* I could find it it's still over 40 bucks, which I find a bit much for a handheld game.

Oh yeah, I also have Nintendogs but that got old *fast*, 2 hours in game time and I'm looking to ebay it.

Do you have any other recommendations ?

Age of empires is really fantastic(not at all like the pc game, more like fire emblem), Metroid Prime Hunters is a must have, Animal Crossings if that is your thing, Mariokart, many many cool games. Oh yeah the brain academy's, awesome. It's nintendo, you know what to expect, small quirky addictive games. Still think the GBA>DS though when it comes to the library, but since DS plays them all, yay.

Hmm none of these games really catch my attention, Mario kart is something I might eventually get, as is AoE if I find it cheap (honestly, with fire Emblem and Advance Wars, do I really need another TBS game ?).

Trauma Center seems like it might be good, but I heard it was very hard. FFIII might be something I'll get (but isn't released yet). It looks like we'lls till have to wait another year or more for Zelda and DragonQuest (okay, that one is just announced) and there's no mention of Fire Emblem DS (damn Wii...).

Don't get me wrong, I still think it's library is more interesting than the PSP's. But it's no where near as diverse and awesome as the GBA's or PS2's.

Well, the screenshots are big, bigger than the display of a PSP but the textures are simply what I call low-resolution, I don't think the smoke makes that much of a difference. Operation Flashpoint from 2001 has smoke, I'm not sure about HalfLife, only played the demo(same for System Shock) and 1999 I just said because 1997 sounded too early.~;)

I don't want to say I dislike those portable things either, they're just expensive and I wouldn't call the graphical quality awesome, but maybe it looks better in motion.

Phoenix Wright was the game I got with my DS. I intended to play it during my lunch hour at work, thinking that as it was about an 8 hour game it'd take a couple of weeks. I'd got it completed within three days. I played that game at all odd hours, including while standing stirring some soup I was cooking for my dinner. Heck - I ate and played, fork in one hand and stylus in the other. Loved the way I could put the console down on a safe surface and play while doing something else, reading the text and tapping the screen as appropriate; it made it a truly portable 'play whenever' game. Perfect for a frog with limited gaming time.

I've not found another DS game I like as much, nor one which can be played while crazy things like stirring soup. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is the closest I've found so far ... but that was too easy even for my tastes, and a bit repetitive in the end.

That's what I like about TBS games, there's no time pressure so you can just leave em lying around for a while without needing to save or anything. AW:DS has stylus controls so that might work.
