I've been itching to do this for awhile now, really curious as to what others are doing with their game in terms of modding the turn rates. So... What's your pleasure? Default 1/2tpy? 1tpy? 2 turns per year? 4?? Vote and let's get a feel for the numbers here! If other than the options to vote for, post your setting below!
I'll start. Went with 2 turns per year. I just feels right, and seems to be a good balance for campaign duration. I tend to tech and turtle a bit, so this suits me just fine.

2 years per turn. Best setting for overall gameplay. Even with heavily modded files so that if I'm playing on the 2 turns per year I get proportional pop-growth and build-times, I find the game incredibly drawn-out and tedious. 2 yrs/turn is just right, I find. Even if the Characters are demi-gods.

Having Citadels and everything built by the time gunpowder comes around just seems weird and changing everything in balance is a bit tedious.
I'm still not completely over the aging issue though. True enough, I hardly notice the different time lines as I play along, but I like to immerse myself and keep a kind of diary for my games to roleplay my generals more.
Ideally I would play with 1 year per turn and characters also aging one year per turn. Two turns per year's just too long in my opinion and I liked the way it was in M:TW. Hope the unpacker provides us with the means to change the aging ratio so that characters are no longer set to aging 1 year every 2 turns.

I hate short games, so I play on 2 turns per year and can't stand the default timescale.
Campaigns should take at least a week to complete.
Right now, I have 1 turn = 1 year. But since I'm a huge turtler, I'm probably gonna mod it to 2 turns a year. I hope characters age normally at that setting. ~:)
Hopefully when the patch comes out, we can set it to 2 turns per year. I can't mod for my life. I tried modding RTW and made it unplayable.

i apreciate that the discrepancy messes up the role role playing aspect of the game somewhat, but i think making the game progress slower would make it incredibly boring for me.
The rewards of conquest combined with the provocative campaign ai means that I inadvoidably find myself reaching the victory conditions fairly early. I am reaching america for the first time, and I have had to artificially maintian the staus quo in europe for about 200yrs i.e if i wanted to win i could have done so around 1200ad. That 200yr wait would be so much more irksome if i had had to play through twice or four times as many games.
I'm on turn 86 in my current campaign and have been playing three weeks now. I like to take it slow but 2 years per turn is ample enough time and gives me some prospect of maybe reaching the America's.Quote:

Change timescale to 0.50 for turns to last 6 months.
You can play under 0.5 or 1.0 as well and reach America. Takes a very long time though as campaign events are linked to years and not turns, but if you do not care too much for historical accuracy, you can check the link in my sig which lets you determine when you want the events to happen. It explains all the things you need to do really.
12 tpy would be nice, but I'm sure it needs a lot of tweaks for other things to make it sound.

I have found this made things a bit better - alliances hold and the ai doesnt foolishly attack you when it has no chance of winning.
still a successfully first crusade left me the main global power and i have been effectively toying with everyone else for years.
Yes, but what about the mongol invasions, gunpowder, or discovering the new world? These are just a few of the things that make the game interesting. Although, 12 turns per year would give the units a more accurate move time.Quote:

I'm doing the same in my Moor campaign, except that I send assassins around to kill of AI family members to eventually make an invasion easier should they attack me, or even wipe them out silently. It has worked well so far and 50 turns into the game I own some 36 regions although I'm at war with jsut about every catholic faction now due to a crusade having been called on a city I bought off my French allies while I was allied to the Pope as well.
My reputation is very reliable now but the relations abysmal with everyone :)
I play 2 tpy, I like playing slow. Buiilding up settlements and forces and taking the occasional province is how I play, and when I feel like it I just rush a faction.
No matter how long the 'wait', time will come. An era feature would be nice though.Quote:

is there any benefit to a 2 turns per year system, over the increased number of turns?
i.e. does M2 model summer and winter, and does it make a difference in the game, e.g. reduced income and movement rate in winter?

Winter and Summer turns are in. They change every turn currently no matter how many years are covered. So Winter and Summer turns are not an improvement if you scale down the time, they're always there. Winter incurrs movement penalties on the Strategic map and gives you snow battles on the Battle map.

1 turn/year - i like to take my time - got halfway through my first campaign and realised there was no way i was gonna get 45 regions before the end without blitzkrieging for the remainder of the game, and i didnt really feel like doing that.
2 turns/year would be way too slow, IMO. 1 turn/year seems juuuuust about right for my style of play.
I've found out, being fully aware of the strange turn/year/age issue, that it doesn't bother me at all while playing. I've always found 4 turns per year combined with 4 seasons, as in Shogun, very nice and I've thought that M2TW would be weird because of the 1 turn in 2 years but it doesn't really matter. I do take interest in my characters development and I'm also fully aware of Medieval history but the age of a character or the year of an attack don't bother me.
What does bother me is, that when I look at the year, I can't fathom why it takes so many years to travel through Europe. In my HRE campaign it takes at least 4 turns to travel from Hamburg to Bavaria. 8 years? Come on......
Best way for me is to ignore it. It depends all on the playing style.

I havn't got M2TW yet (I need to get a new computer to play it). However, when I do get it, I will play with four turns per year. Nice slow gameplay. Wonderful :san_grin:
