Trial for father in killing of tot who broke video game

This was Tyrone Spellman's explanation to police: He "snapped" after he thought his daughter had broken a $600 Xbox game console.

Alayiah Turman was only 17 months old, born March 29, 2005. Spellman beat her to death, prosecutors say.

"She pulled the cord and the whole game console fell over," Spellman said in his statement, read by Homicide Detective John Cummings. "I thought it was broken. I popped her in the face. I picked her up and tossed her in a chair."

Later that day - at 12:37 p.m. - Alayiah was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital.

A sad case, but I feel the article is also trying to make fun of the type of people involved..

What is it with people killing kids over games consoles?

It would have been much the same story if the psycho dad had been watching football and the kid had unplugged the TV.

I hope this Tyrone fellow gets put in a really nasty prison for a really long time.

Doc Bean, no, they're not making fun of the victim's mother. American editorial standards are such that they take the quote verbatim, exactly as it was made (though they usually put an editorial comment 'sic' immediately following so that you know they knew that wasn't grammatically correct).

I find this story heartbreaking. That poor little girl. :shame:

The fact that he lashed out with that much aggression is disturbing, the fact that he shows not remorse is more disturbing still. What is wrong with the world?

While there's no such thing as a nice prison, some American prisons are real hell-holes. I'm just hoping that this sad excuse for a man gets put in one of our more horrible lockups.

It's not technically capital punishment, so it doesn't violate my personal ethos..... Why can't we just use guys like this as the study for very, very, very experimental drugs (i.e. they live, they may not).

Or instead of torturing him and everyone he comes into contact with in the prison, we could just put the phsyco to death...
It makes no sense to expose other jail-birds (who may be innocent or put there for petty crimes) to his filth and insanity! Kill the bastard and you won't ever need to worry about him again!

Well we can all see that the man valued the life of his own daughter less then the value of the xbox.

Sort of belie's the father's statement that he just snaped and hit her and then threw her into a chair.

Losing one's temper and causing harm is one thing - but this seems to be far more damning then what is on the surface.
