Repetetive Attacking Sabaens > CTD

The title says it all. In my current campaign, I'm at war with the Sabeans and whenever I attack one of their two armies outside their towns it withdraws. No problem there, but whenever I decide to pursue and attack the same army a second time the game CTD's before the battle loading screen even pops up. So, as long as I keep attacking each army only once each turn I can keep playing, but when I feel like rounding it off, I stand no chance. It is not influenced by the EBBS script, for I have tried a couple of times with script activated and a couple of times without - and the problem persists anyway. Nor is it due to some sepcial strat map textures, for the area in which I attack them/ they withdraw to contains none of the kind.

Is there someone out there who could enlighten me (further) in this matter?

I've solved the matter by battering the Sabaens into submission (they're a protectorate now), but still:
