The legend of the Brutii.

I'm bored, so I think I'll make a story about my current campaign.

First of all, here's the situation: I control Greece and am at war with the Greek Cities and Thrace. Things are going pretty well. Here is a picture:

Most of my generals are pretty bad. My current plan is to send one of my armies to attack Thrace and move north and another army will go through the Peninsula north of Rhodes. Here are some more pictures:

First, here's a picture of the army that attacked Rhodes, and will soon move north. They have been damaged significantly due to unexpected heavy resistance at Rhodes. It had a commander, but he had no command stars and was killed in the seige of Rhodes.

This is a large army lead by Cassius Brutus, 32, who unfortuantely only has 2 command stars. The army is counter-attacking against Thrace. Thrace had an almost full stack and a half stack seiging my northern city before, but by the time this army got there the Thracians had dissapeared. I've managed to catch up to the half stack on my way to Byzantium, as you can see, but the full stack is still unaccounted for. He's probably just further down the road.

The year is 244 BC. The Brutii Armada has sunk a small Thracian navy carrying an invasion army and a family member of the Thracian king. War is inevitable.

War news:

After a few years, the brutii army has become an even stronger power in Europe. After the war with Greece ended, the Brutii look north for a foe worthy of their conquest. There were two possibilities - The Dacians in the Northwest, a large, medium strength empire of barbarians in the northwest, or the Thracians in the Northeast, a small but powerful empire at the North-eastern border. When the Brutii armada saw a Thracian invasion army about to land on Rhodes, they realized who the gods had chosen for the Brutii's enemy - The Thracians must be destroyed.

After years of assembling troops in Greece, the Brutii are moving three armies led by competent generals to lead the invasion.

Gaius Ammianus, age 23, currently governor of Thessalonica. He will lead his army north, and strike into the Thracian's southwest border. He is a three star general, but has little experience.

Cassius Brutus, age 40, currently governor of Byzantium. He will lead his army north-west and strike the Thracian capital. He is a four star general, and has experience in battle from the Brutii-Greek war.

Amulius Brutus, age 57, currently being transported to the North-eastern border of the Thracian empire to catch the Thracians by suprise and prevent Northern Thrace from sending reinforcements to the South while the other two armies are assaulting their southern cities. He is a six star general, and was the leader of the Greek conquest, but his old age may become a problem in the war.

The three generals are expected to conquer the Thracians as soon as they can. If resistance is stronger than expected, reinforcements from Greece may be possible.

The tale of Marcus Sergius:

Years ago, Captian Marcus Sergius was sent from Greece with an army of 4 units of equites and 6 units of hastati to Conquer Patavium from the Gauls. Unfortunately, the House of Julii had just taken Patavium and the cities nearby, so Captian Marcus continued West until he came to the Galic city of Narbo Maritus. Seeing as it was poorly defended, Marcus began the seige and started the construction of rams to break through the gates.

But lady luck was against him again, and a 10 unit galic army came from the north to reinforce the garrison. Captian Marcus emerged victorious over them, but severe casualties came with his victory. Immediately after this close victory, another 5 legion Galic army came from the north to reinforce the garrison. A battle began, but Marcus was losing severely and ordered the withdraw. For 6 months the Captian, with the remnants of his army, retreated East, but another engagement with the Gauls had left Marcus with nothing but poor morale, 7 single Hastati troops, and 3 single Equites troops. At this moment, when all hope seemed lost, an unexpected massive Spanish army came from the Iberian Peninsula and seiged the weak Narbo Maritus. The persuing Gauls were forced to break off their persuit and help their kinsman once again.

At this moment a message came from home: Due to outstanding achievements in battle, Captian Marcus Sergius was promoted to General. But with only a few friends as an army, Marcus began the challenge of building a settlement in the forest to protect his troops and hiring any mercanaries that would join him. In an effort to strengthen Marcus's chance of survival, the Brutii dispatched a spy and a diplomat to join Marcus. But Barbaric hordes of men were all around him - The neutral Germania in the East, the neutral Spain in the west, and the hostile Gauls in the north - and he has only a sliver of a chance to ever see home again.

Other news:

From Rhodes, Brutii armies captured Hilicarsus from rebels and destroyed the Greeks with the conquest of Peregamum, and a Brutii colony has been set up in Africa with the victory and conquest of more rebels.

But what will happen next? Will the invasion of Thrace be succesful? Will the colony in Africa stay under Brutii control? Will Marcus Sergius ever see home again? Come back next time, for the Legend of the Brutii!

Allright, I'll remember to take those screen shots next time I play when I invade Thrace, I'll probably be able to play tonight.

The year is still 244 BC, but new news has changed the entire invasion plan.

After exchanging map information with Dacia, the Brutii have discovered that the Empire of Thrace has been beat down into a small 2-city faction by the Dacians, and will not require 3 armies to destroy. Because of this, The army under Gaius Ammianus will be redirected to attack the new Dacian South-east border, Bylazora. Another army will be dispatched for the Dacian war as well.

Herius Maesa, age 26, will lead an army to attack a city nearby Bylazora. The Dacian territory may be large, but Dacian resistance is not expected to require more than two armies to subdue. These two armies will not be enough to conquer the Dacians, but they will be able to take the Dacians by suprise and take a few of their regions.

Once the Thracian war is over, the heroes of the Thracian war will send the majority of their forces to attack the Dacian East border, and begin an all-out invasion.

The city of Bylazora has fallen to the the Brutii army with few casualties. The first battle against the Dacians ended with a victory for the mighty Brutii!

After spotting another Thracian army being transported by the Thracian Navy, the Brutii Armada has sunk yet another enemy army!

Summer, 242 BC.

Tylis, capital of Thrace, is seiged. After losing both of their large armies at sea, the Thracians do not stand a chance against our forces. In the Assault, the Thracians were destroyed and and have lost their capital. Only one Thracian city remains, and Amulius Brutus's army has just landed and is about to assault that city!

MARIUS REFORMS:
Summer, 243 BC. Gaius Marius, without the approval of the Senate, has reformed the Roman army. The new professional troops are now going to be trained instead of the original troops.

I'm going to take a break from my campaign again and try to learn more about modding. I'll continue this campaign enventually.

Dangit! After installing BI, that save isn't working anymore... I started a new campaign as the Scipii... Maybe after I've finished that campaign, I'll uninstall BI so that I can play this file again. Sorry!

I recomend that you install the 1.6 patch for BI. That should take care of the problem.

Man - you're the bomb! Keep those 'war diaries' coming! A great read indeed. I especially like how you intersperse text with snapshot pictures. It's like reading a 'campaign short story'.

Well no offence meant to SSJ, as these are a very good read, but I suggest you look at Barbarossa's Armenian AAR. I think that is where SSJ got the idea for his.
