Since when was the AI so diplomatic?

Hello,
Something I noticed about the AI: it was so diplomatic. I was treating the Saba very nicely to keep my alliance with them by giving them a cash flow as a gift. I later went to them to ask for further map information ten years since I had last asked. They then, after declining my original offer, offered me (what I believe to be) at least half their treasury:

Of course I accepted despite how rich I was. Very strange. Has anybody else had the AI treat them so nicely?

Well, being not so nice to them (them being the Saba and the Saka factions) worked out very well. Little needed to make them becoming my protectorates...

Also: helping out the Maks in exchange for Milete proved another deal the AI was ready to accept.

I guess that the weaker factions now actually realise that they are weak - and act corresponding with their position towards the far larger/ or stronger factions. Or perhaps, the AI knows something about Christmas? :juggle:

I think it's because of Christmas, because its rare.:laugh4:
In me games the AI acts diplomaticly stupid as always.:wall:

The AI was actually behaving itself diplomatically-- at least before Christmas. Now, I guess Christmas is over. :inquisitive:

My ally since the start of the game- the Ptolemies- betrayed me by assaulting one of my cities that had a full stack with an army that had three units... This was after I gave them the Seleucid's capital (Seleucia) and 40,000 minai in exchange for two of their cities.

Two turns later, Makedon, down to one barbarian city with less than 2000 people, was forced to be a protectorate by KH. I destroyed the KH, and then offered to give them one of their old provinces back in exchange for an alliance. They refused, and instead attacked me. They were gone two turns later. :dizzy2:

The Romani, about the same time (one turn after Makedon was gone), broke their alliance with me in spite of me giving them tribute to keep them off my backs. I offered them millitary access, 40,000 gold, and trubute of 1000 gold for 20 turns just so I wouldn't have to invade Italy. They refused, though we don't share a common border... Instead, they made peace with the Qarthadastim and the Epirotes. It appears the league of stupidity has been formed.

I was losing a war as the Casse against the Sweboz, when suddenly they sued for peace and offered me about 10,000 mnai and all my lost provinces back. Granted, they had just succeeded in kicking me off the mainland, only, and not invaded the home islands, but they inexplicably wanted to give all that back. And it wasn't because they were fighting anyone else, either, they were at peace with all of their other neighbors.

There was also this one time Carthage paid me 25,000 mnai to take their maps after I had just offered mine in exchange for theirs, along with an "accept or we will attack" clause. What the heck, I wondered? I guess if I didn't accept their generosity, they would be offended that badly.

Why does the AI do these crazy things sometimes, I wonder?

Does the campaign difficulty affect the diplomacy of the AI? Maybe on VH (which I am playing at) they reject nearly all offers from the player and at Normal/Hard, they are a little more friendly.

money seems to help. If you add a 100 000 sweetner to your deals, they tend to get accepted more easily.
I had a strange one: Bactria, who are down to a single settlement, tried to ally with me. I declined, but because I was feeling sorry for them (they are about to get squashed by Seleukia) I tried to give them some money and they turned me down with something about 'theres no point bandying pointless words'...
Another time the Epirots sued for peace (after they attacked me and I counterattacked and took Sparta, Korinth and Athens with the army I was building in Krete to attack Alexandria... seriously bad timing on their part...). They even payed me to make peace with them, then attacked me in the next turn. Fools...

I was playing as the Aedui (sp?) and had succeeded in kicking the arverni out of Gaul except for their one province above bononia in Italy. They allied with the Romans and both sent forces against me. I repelled a small roman force and tried for peace with the Arverni now that they werent in Gaul I didnt wanna bother with them. They refused and I destroyed another army. Tried again, no still denied. The romani sent another army which was massacred then demanded I become a protectorate... I accepted just so I wouldnt need to worry about building up armies to defend my borders. I give up my freedom, the war ends, the diplomacy box closes, a roman fleet blockades my port and Im at war with them again.

Yes the romans done that to me as well, in me Epirus campain. The next time they wanted me to become their protectorate, I demanded a sum of 10000, and then they atacked the same turn. It's totaly stupid.

That's due to the bug that if you or the other person turns down a offer, then the other person will not accept anything until the next turn.

I'm not sure if that's a bug. Negotions sometimes are supposed to take long (multiple turns) and if you make propositions that they don't like, they'll ignore you for a while.

It's a bit overdone, though.
