The enemy opens my doors!!
Hi to all,
I have been a MTW officionado and even participated once to a very sympathetic "email campaign". Now my dream comes true: a sequel to MTW, and overall improved!
I am having lots of fun on a long campaign with France.
I just took Venice from the Milanese (hehe they just got excommunicated), sacked the city (11000 well owned florins LOL) and retired in this magnificient city build on water. I was just visiting the Pizza San Marco when new of a retaliation army came to my ears. These stupid Milanese attacked my stone walls with 3 ladders!! (they left the ram on the ground). Of course all the infantry was cut into pieces trying to climb these stupid ladders. Then the enemy charged with his huge army of heavy cavalry. I was laughting out loud on my wall when I saw them approaching my gates...but I started crying when I saw my gates open!!
How is it possible? The gate was untouched and all my troups were well inside the city!
Do you have any explanation for that?
I reloaded the game 2x and it always happens. The gate is closed during the combat on the wall then it open up when the horses charge.
I have also a second question: I can fill the "governor" room with people from the family, but I think they are generals. How to recruit governors to govern cities and castles?

P.S: this french accent in the game is FORMIDABLE
Re: The enemy opens my doors!!
Sounds like you've got an enemy spy working within your city. When you/computer put a spy in a city, they have a certain % of chance of opening the gates when/if your army attacks it.
For governors, you'll just need to adopt new people when they come along and make sure, when you get the chance, marry your people off ASAP. I don't think there's any other way.
Re: The enemy opens my doors!!
Yep, you got spies, alright. Recruit your own spy to flush him out.
Re: The enemy opens my doors!!
You were right, thank you.
I finally decided to face the cavalry with my 26 pikemen just at the gate. The milanese rats (its RP, nothing against the italian :beam: ) were forced to come one by one, and they finally all routed under the combined pressure of the archers, pikemen and the charge of the personal guard of my general from time to time.
I won the battle with 6 pikemen left :sweatdrop:
The next turn the spy in my walls was discovered and fled. I trained immediately spies, now I recognized their utility
Oui, mon roy!
Next question (if I may):
In another siege, I can defend my walls with only 1 complete peasant archer unit. From the start of the attack, I take the ram as a target with flame arrows but I cannot burn it. What happened is that I killed regularly the men who push the ram against my gates, so it stop "ramming" until the next volley, it went on this way until all my arrows were depleted. The ram never burned.
Do I do something wrong?
Stephane
Re: The enemy opens my doors!!
No, you didn't do anything wrong. There is only a very slim possibility that you will burn the Rams down, but the Siege towers are fair game.
Re: The enemy opens my doors!!
You're sure you targeted the ram, not the guys pushing it?

Good question!
Thank you, I will try being more careful.
I developed a nice strategy to delay the braking of my gates:
When all the opponent troops from the ladders died, I used my own to climb down and attack the ram. Then the enemy moves its ram back. My men are not attacked by adjacent units until he ram is back. Then I go back to my wall. Then they push the ram again....
During this time they continue to take the volleys of my archers.
