I was thinking the same thing for a while but there are! At every battle so long as you have a general or a king or something of the sort.
All you have to do is WAIT. When it says "start battle" or "wait?" for the days, don't click anything. while the camera looks over your soldiers and soon, within ten or so seconds, the general will begin to speak.
Having to wait is irritating, but they are definitely in. See this thread for choice ones:
