Anyone have similar experienced with no disasters?
Ah, I've had it too when I sent a crusading army. Nothing of it happens at all, for a long time, and THAT. I don't like it. I find it a cheap move, like.... "Hmmm, what can we do to mess up the player a bit? Ah, that's it! We'll kill half his crusading army!" Whatever's the reason, I don't like it.
I occasionally just had some disasters happening near settlements, but they weren't really a big deal.
Re: Disasters or lack of...
I'm glad someone started this thread as I was about to.
I cannot count the number of times I've had a stack all but plowed under by an earthquake or drowned in a flood.:furious3: This goes for fleets too when hit by a storm. Most of the disasters seem to happen when I'm gearing up for a land-grab or have a large stack going somewhere.
Also, I had an assassin killed by a flood. He had just made full eyeballs (never had one live that far) after killing a pope family member. I had a lot of long range plans for him as he was only 30 and the Horde was about to arrive. What bothered me most about this event was I had about 15 assassins and that many spys blowing up english buildings further north and not once did any of them die from any disaster 'cause none happened in their areas.
But if peace breaks out, BAM! - Nothing happens for the whole duration.
Needless to say I cringe when I hit next turn.
But I am having a blast. :)
Anyway, I'm new and saying hi.
Re: Disasters or lack of...
In my mind although disasters are not extremely common, they are too powerful when they do occur. On my Venetian campaign, I was beseiging constantinople with a weak garrison with a half stack with 6 generals in it and the rest mercs. Their huge army was over a turn away so i thought taking constantinople was gonna be easy and all i needed to do was build the siege weapons. I press end turn and the next turn, a flood strikes and all but one of my generals die including my awesome faction leader with full command and dread leaving me with an insane new general and some undermanned balkan archers. I was not happy...

.
That's because there aren't any natural disasters in UK (except Rain...)
We don't get earthquakes, or volcanos, or floods (well proper ones rather than a river overflowing because of the rain. Did I mention the rain?). I suppose we get storms but I've had one of those in North Sea. No poisonous snakes (that pansy ass adder doesn't count), spiders, scorpions either. Too much rain for them I think.
Come on guys - you can't complain because there aren't enough disasters and then that they hurt too much when they come. We all agree AI can't match a human player. So instead it gets a break and targets us for disasters, treacherous turncoat allies etc. Without that it would be even easier, and lead to even more complaints.

Does it ever stop raining in england? :laugh4: we could use some rain......
Re: Disasters or lack of...
This disaster file is in the world/maps/base directory..
I have never seen the volcano, locusts, or dustbowl ever. I am not sure why there is a horde entry in there either.
Re: Disasters or lack of...
Name of file please? Does it show location of these events too? In my Portugal campaign, I get slammed by storms, earthquakes and plagues on a regular basis. I ended up housing all my generals and family members in a fort near Toledo because Nature was killing so many of my generals when no other nation could.
Any way of disabling?
Re: Disasters or lack of...
The only natural disaster I have ever seen is an earthquake in Alleppo that occurs on the same year every game.

The Spanish Generals have a pre-battle speech about that. This is not verbatim but, it's close:
"God forgot England when he put the sun in the sky. Fogs and mists are all those people see from the moment they are born. It is a mercy to kill them, for at least the weather is better in hell!"
Re: Disasters or lack of...
I've seen a lot of disasters myself, but they typically happen around the middle east/africa. Very rarely seen any disasters in the north except storms.
As for myself.. the one time a disaster has hit hard was the first fleet I sent to the new world. A storm hit during the journey, killing the family member who was leading the trip. Bit of a bugger really. But the captain managed to do a decent job invading the new world until reinforcements arrived a few decades later.
