Do forts mitigate any winter effects in EB? In other words, can you "winter" in forts?
I have had many 'vigorous' generals that got sick while spending the winter in a fort. On the other hand some of my most 'languorous' family members get sick even in cities. Maybe it gives some benefits, don't know...
What are forts like in EB? Is it the same as vanilla?

well they look different as well, for example the roman forts have the via praetoria, semi-accurate tent layouts, a ditch and rampart, etc.
So the Roman fort differs from other forts for example the Greek or the barbarian?Quote:

The Romans built stone forts after they were stationed in the same place for a long period of time. And I know that other empires/civilizations built forts in strategic locations. Xenophon cut his teeth attacking a Pro-Spartan garrison in one if I remember correctly.
I have no idea if this is revelant in the least, but I noticed in my wrecking of my current EB folder;
Does that mean cities can appear as the game progresses, or alternatively have the location be semi-chosen by the player?Code:; ---------------------------------------------------------

Is it possible to code forts so they mitigate some winter effects? I don't think it should mitigate all winter effects but obviously Ceasar could not have conquered Gaul without wintering garrisions in troubled areas. If they could it would give people a valid reason to build forts. Perhaps they could mitigate some supply problems as well ( not all). Simulate getting some supplies from allied tribes.
forts are useful for defending your cities. If you build them at choke points like mountain passes and river crossings the enemy will have to siege them to advance, giving you some time to get your army over to defeat them. Also If you are constantly getting invaded at a certain point and you build a fort there the AI will sometimes ignore you, allowing you to concentrate you defenses at other settlements.
Does the AI ever build forts? I mean, I don't think I've seen it done once.
In a .74 game, I not only saw the Germans building forts, I saw them, and perhaps it was just accident, building them in a strategic location so as to cut off easy access into their terrority. Of course, I could still just go around it, but that would have taken me probably a entire year because of the distance and no roads. I haven't seen it in .8, but then again I've either quit due to CTD or just lost interest in the particular campaign.Quote:

I had a game where Getai and Sweboz bordered eachother and then both built forts along their short border and sat their with full armies waiting for the other to move. Also Getai had two forts along my border, waiting for me to leave a border town defensless.Quote:

As I had hired enough mercenaries, I made my way home the same way. Just before I arrived at the site of my previous fort, AI was so friendly and left it again, so I had a home the next turn. Wow. Maybe it varies from computer to computer, but in the dozens of campaigns I've played, I've can't say I remember the AI building any forts.
Some of your stories are awesome, though, and I'd really like to see that sort of thing as I continue to play through .80. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the fact that I was playing an older release.
