Information on the v.81 Patch
Just wanted to give you guys a heads-up. The EB Team (with the assistance of our dedicated group of playtesters) has surmounted the final obstacles, and the path forward to v.81 is clear. The last tweaks, edits, and improvements are being assembled into the Update 7 Build, which will be tested internally for a few days. We expect to see no problems, just improvements, and once that's confirmed we'll begin to assemble the v.81 Release. We make no promises as to the release date, but it should be soon.
This patch contains literally hundreds of improvements, from major to barely perceptible, but a few of the most important are these:
1) Every CTD that's even remotely repeatable has been eliminated. There are still a few extremely rare reports of the Reinforcement CTD, but most of our playtesters have never seen it even once. This means that - by far - EB v.81 is the most stable build we have EVER released.
2) Elimination of Peasant Cards. Out of some 350 units, there's only about 7 cards still not finished. To put that in perspective, 18 of 20 factions will never see a Peasant Card again!
3) Playability. Every faction is playable now. They still have varying degrees of completeness, and several will test your skills to the limit, but there are no broken factions.
What v.81 is NOT, is "perfect". There will be typos and bad grammar and (far fewer) missing descriptions and several other tiny annoyances. And those are things we'll continue to work on. But you will find EB to be more immersive than ever, and now the only thing stopping your campaigns (other than trying to play it on a computer with marginal specs) will be your personal decision to stop. So if the only time you ever went to bed was after a CTD, God help you now! :yes:

Seems to me like the mod is closer to 0.89 if not 0.90 - not everything is finished and not every bug is fixed, but it is close enough to concentrate on the small things and not worrying about larger things like recruiting.

I think I just pooped my pants a little. That's really something. I just finished watching the latest episode of "Rome" on HBO and I gotta' tell ya', can't wait to fire up a campaign.
One thing is kind of weird though. I'm not trying to be facetious but why leave the 7 remaining unit cards unfinished if you know which ones they are and they can be fixed? If someone would be so kind as to explain to me how to make unit cards, I'd be happy to do those remaining ones. Or if time is an issue, someone who knows how to do it can finish them up. Just seems like a shame that there are only 7 of them and the release could be absolutely perfect with regards to finished unit cards, but that's holding it back.
Again, if there's some tutorial or anything of the sort explaining how to do it, I'd be happy to give it a shot.

The tutorials show how to do it, sort of, but not some other details I need. For example, which units are the 7 unfinished ones? How can I find them?

I pray all the units have been looked at closely and there are no more shild flooters..
I Sware to the Powers that Be!! that half way into Every Campian i've started the thing has a game killer CTD I can't for the life of me keep a game going from start to finish..Some of the CTD are Followable..meaning you can see maybe after the second time it happens where it happend and what units to move or something.. Makes me wan't to scream bloody Murder!! finely found a faction to my likeing tehehehehe:laugh4: And the game decieds to send me to the desktop..Again!!
Q? Has the Oliphaunt cheat been removed..i can't seem to get it working..Just for kicks and giggles i wan'ted to try it again i havent used it sence 04:egypt: When i use to kill off the pesky Sand peoples:egypt:

We said from the beginning that the "under-the-hood" changes would make v.80 incompatible with v.81. But since those are the very same changes that render it stable and almost totally CTD-free, well, that's a price worth paying.

Best I can do is point you toward the recent thread where I requested help in creating UI Cards for v.81 (those ones are in the Patch, BTW).

My PC might be in this class :embarassed: , my spec is 2.4 cpu, 1.5gig ram, 6600 gforce card. Will It stand up to the task of EB V8.1?

I've got crappier specs than that and mine runs great with large unit size and normal graphics with stuff like aliasing and dust and grass turned off, smooth as a babies bottom.
Anyway, this is wonderful news. I haven't played properly since 0.8 because i got to a CTD in something like 220BC and i could not work around it, so i've been waiting for this patch to start a new game.
Hooray for EB! If you guys ever come to England, let me know, i'll switch on my satnav, drive to wherever you are and buy you a pint or 8.
For those of you that already live in England, you'll have to wait until i pass my driving test. :2thumbsup:

If I am reading you right, you are saying these seven units are part of 100 new units in 0.81 that are not in 0.80? If so, Wonderland won't easily be able to make cards of them. AFAIK, he would need to take screenshots of them, but they don't exist in his build of EB (unless he happens to be an EB team member with access to the 0.81 trial build you have). Is there anyway to upload a zip which adds these seven units to 0.80?
If you can do that I, like Wonderland, would be willing to have a go at making the cards. Perhaps some other more talented forum readers would have a go too. The units sound rather cool (and mostly Roman?) so it would be shame to have peasant cards for them.
If I have misunderstood what's involved or it's too much trouble, ignore me as I'm pretty clueless about this kind of thing.

No, there are only a very few new units - maybe none actually, but I think there is a new general and a few units that you never saw before are fixed so they appear now (balearic infantry were virtually impossible to get, as were pontic chalkaspidai).

I believe we will be making a 0.8.1 stand-alone plus a 0.8 -> 0.8.1 patch available. Either way it will not be saved-game compatible.

Hmm... no, though I may give them a different starting bodyguard (which will be replaced by the cataphract ones later on) and I've been giving them a bit of a playtest so I have a few tweaks in store for them as well (mostly just army composition - I've discovered that when they start they don't have any anti-HA units, which would be important).
The Pontic and Hai generals are currently being worked on, but they won't be ready in time for 0.81.

I meant we had created about 100 or so new UI Cards, not units. The seven I listed are all in v.80 and can be found by searching EDU (EB\Data\export_descr_unit.txt). For example, opening EDU and doing "find" for ;391 brings up the core stats for the Western Auxilia, including the Type and Dictionary names which are used in other files.
Or you could just select them in a custom battle, grab some screen shots, and use those to create UI Cards.
