Custom Battle Roster? (Includes instructions for multiplayer battles)
Does anyone else have problems with the custom battle rosters. They seem to be leaving out alot of units. For example for the Pahlava they are missing almost all of their calvary.

Re: Custom Battle Roster?
We will have a MP/custom battle-compatible EDU in the near future, hopefully, and it should alleviate all problems.

I made one. It should have been including with .81.

We'll probably issue a hotfix in the near future (to formally solve the Lusotanna Bug and anything else that surfaces as a problem), and we can probably include your Custom EDU in that release.

Why?
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
It is already included. Haven't tested/used it yet, tough. But it is there.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
Aren't most of them mixed in with all the merc cavalry?
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
ah i dont understand nothing of EDU files etc. but it should be fine if when i select a custom battle, i can see only the factionspecific units.
regarding the pahlava, i can see all the cavalry in their roster, only mixed up with mercs and regional units. what a pity the azad asavaran have completely changed their skin, now they look as zradha pahlavans, only their head and mantle has remained. They had a very nice body look before... best skin for azats was 0.74, but i cant debate on historical accuracy honestely.

Re: Custom Battle Roster?
The included edu for mp custom battle seems to work fine, except for that no/some units have no slave ownership resulting in an errormessage when closing the game. (something about no ownership for cidainh bodyguards for brigantes in descr_rebel_factions.txt). But thats not really a problem.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
When I select custom battle I see very few faction specific units especially when it comes to calvary, no cataphracts whatsoever.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
They are there, I can see them for all 5 factions that get them.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
i think the problem is that the custom battle unit roster is too chaotic. it includes every recruitable unit to the faction. what most people want, including me, is that limit the roster to faction-specific units.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
Therefore you have to swap the edu's.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
sorry to be paranoid, but can you elaborate on that?? i don't really get it.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
:dizzy2:
Sorry, but if you don't look at the presents you get then...:
...EB\mp custom game edu
Now, don't forget to make back ups of your campaign EDU.
And to round this post off: have fun. :balloon3:

Re: Custom Battle Roster?
ok im really sorry if i seem like a noob but what do i do??
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
you take one of the two files you see in themap posted above, rename it to export_describe_unit.txt and paste it in the EB/data map. (yes to overwrite). If you want to custom. Replace it again with the singlplayer edu, for campaigning.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
so if i only want the faction-specific units for custom battle what do i do??

The bit in bold is wrong: should be export_descr_unit.txt And the overwrite bit is exactly why you should back up your original EDU.

Re: Custom Battle Roster?
There's already a backup included in the release. It's in the 'sp game edu backup' folder.

There's a down button if there's alto of untis... you need to scroll around to find them.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
The problems already been solved. Just use the file labeled for custom battles and voila.
-
Re: Custom Battle Roster?
Also if you want to play multiplayer. YOu might need to share the same map.rwm
it's in EB/data/world/maps/base Make sure you make a backup of your old one. If you want to play campaign again, you need to swap them again.

Re: Custom Battle Roster?
I get this after replacing the export_descr_unit.txt with either of the mp versions:
"Script error in EB/data/export_descr_unit.txt, at line 1349, column 23.
Could not find soldier battle model for unit type 'Arabian infantry redsea axemen'."
...and a ctd. This only happens with my brother's computer, and comes when loading the menu. With mine it works like a charm (except for the closing error message).
Also what's the difference between the _custommp.txt and _mpcustom.txt?

Re: Custom Battle Roster? (Includes instructions for multiplayer battles)
Edit 5: I've made a .bat that swaps the EDUs as needed and can start the game automatically.
It currently lets you choose between 6 options:
configure EB for campaign
configure EB for campaign and start EB
configure EB for custom battles or multiplayer
configure EB for custom battles or multiplayer and start EB
exit and start EB
exit without starting EB
Some caveats:
- EB 0.81a hotfix changes the "\EB\Data\export_descr_unit.txt" file but does not update the custommp or backup EDUs so don't use this with 0.81a until they are updated
- It requires to be put in the "installpath\EB\" directory.
- Because DOS doesn't like spaces in directory names (and/or I just don't know how to make a .bat to bypass the issue):
You must rename the folders "\mp custom game edu\" and "\sp game edu backup\"
to "\mp_custom_game_edu\" and "\sp_game_edu_backup\"
- There are 2 custom/mp text files in the relevant directory, I'm not sure which is supposed to be used?:
export_descr_unit_custommp.txt 362kb
export_descr_unit_mpcustom.txt 361kb
This code uses the export_descr_unit_custommp.txt but its an easy fix if it should be the other. - If someone could provide example files, I could alter it to change the menus so you can't accidentally load your campaign & break it because you used the custom battle/mp EDU...
You can change your icon to point to the .bat instead of the RomeTW.exe if you don't want to browse to the folder all the time.
So to the code:
Code:
@echo off
rem -EDU swapper MK1.6 by Hoom 4/3/07
rem -intended for use on Windows XP, not sure if it works on other windows versions
rem -feel free to use and alter as needed, its a very basic .bat file...
rem -Note: this file presumes it is placed in the \EB directory!

rem -options

echo 3 to configure EB for custom battles or multiplayer
echo 4 to configure EB for custom battles or multiplayer and start EB

one of the two computers has a bad install, I guess.

Yeah, the other one had it bad. But still can't get the game data to match... Could it have something to do with preferences?

Re: Custom Battle Roster?
try exchanging a map.rwm from the EB/data/world/maps/base folder. It normally should work then. Next patch should include a map.rwm and the problem should be solved.
