Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
For the romans atleast the only unit they can get in the Illyria region is the Illyrian light hippies and I think in the Carthaginian homelands they get no units besides the ones they get at the much later marian reforms . Is there anything in the works for a slightly improved MIC roster for the Romans in those regions.
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
I posted on this just yesterday - Illyria still doesn't have all its regionals. Lots of places don't. We will continue to work on them, though we are hurting from a lack of active skinners/modellers.
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
What about having some Arab units within Arabia for all factions? Could be skirmishers, or an Arab levy unit. Something more doubtful: since the Saba Heavy infantry is nearly everywhere available within Arabia, perhaps some of the larger cities in the south could have them as regionals.
In the Indus regions it would be nice (at least for the Seleukids) to have some of the hellenistic locals, particularly peltastai indo-hellenikoi would be nice. At present they're only available to Saka, Eleutheroi, and Baktria - but not to the Seleukids.
The basic idea behind the suggestions is not just to fill up some recruitment voids, but also to ensure that each province you have to conquer for Victory purposes has some other significance. I mean, why would I conquer Homma, or Gerrha playing as AS, if it were not for the Victory objectives that demand me doing this?
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
As mentioned in some of the descriptions, Illyria was a very loyal province to Rome. But with such a limited recruitment base, the old population trouble makes it prone to rebel. This makes some sense for Punic territory, but Illyria?
I don't know the first thing about modding, is there any way I can put a few Illyrians from the Epirote roster into Rome's Auxilia MIC?
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
If it was up to me, we would reduce non-native unit recruitment even more, rather than extend it to additional factions. Historically conquest was all about loot and economic gain, not the ability to recruit spiffy new units. There's something seriously "vanilla" about recruiting large numbers of non-faction units of every type, everywhere on the map. Personally I think it's great that most factions can only recruit one type of unit in Illyria. That should be the norm, not the oddity.
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
Kull - I can see what you're saying but didnt some factions i.e. Romans, do just that? Didnt they use their own units but then throw in auxillaries from the local lands?
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
You've gotta think of those more as allied lands for when we put type4's in them. It's hard to restrict yourself (not you, but anyone) when you build type4's, I know. But if it's really an allied army that is aiding yours, either use them in a campaign, and try to send them home, or let them guard their homelands only. Taking them on long journeys and leaving them in distant cities is not cool if they came from type4 govt provinces. I really want to play a long campaign where I'm strict with that sort of stuff, but I keep having to do restarts and retests over and over unfortunately.
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
Hey that sounds good TA. Could your write up some other house rules similar to that? I'd love to get more ideas to make the game more involving and interesting. Just anything else you've thought of or anyone else has to make the game more challenging, realistic, RP-ish, etc.
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
This may totally be of the mark but I'm playing pahlav and every land I conquer I can recruit the spear archers, I can't remember their names, but it seems a lot like vanilla being able to recruit as soon as you conquer a land. I'm not sure I am liking this. Any help to why this is happening would be appreciated.

Probably because everything you have captured so far was once Persian lands, which would justify these archers.

Are you playing 0.80, with the rebelling city CTD fix?
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
Just one more question guys. Not sure if this is the right place, but I'm playing for Qart Hadasht, have just invaded Italy and captured Capua. Before capturing it I had a feeling that I won't be able to recruit any reinforcements there. This was a right feeling because both of available barracks don't give the opportunity to recruit anyone. I do understand that from the historical point of view this must be correct, but does this mean that I won't be able to recruit anyone in all roman core cities? I need to know that to plan the strategy of my future invasion.
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
as the Epirotes apri doesnt allow recruitment of any native or non-native units, that I saw, at least. (then again this is .8, havent played a .81 epirote campaign)

That's not vanilla at all. In vanilla, you would be able to recruit Praetorian legionaries (from the huge city governors residence) in Egyptian cities immediately upon conquering it as well as normal legionaries if the barracks was still intact. There weren't any regional units at all AFAIK, except faction specific ones (the First Cohorts in Rome and Spartans for the Greek Cities)
RTR's recruitment system is more like that, there are basic auxiliaries (generally very low grade) available to anyone and a few elite ones here and there.
What's bad about RTR's system is that you could upgrade your auxilia/barracks to a point where you could recruit Pezhetairoi in places like Germania.

I think one of the team members said that possession of the Romani heartlands allowed other factions to recruit the Camillan units (the old hastati, principes and triarii)
I don't know if that's actually effective in 0.81 for each faction.
You should be able to recruit Samnites and Lucanians in the more southern provinces though, and Celtic units in the north of Italy. That should be enough, I think.
Re: Ehh you guys going to fix a couple recruitment dead zones?
thanks for the hint:idea2:

Playing .81 and I understand now why I get to recruit the spear archers immediately, it seems to easy this way, oh well.
