Well this one's sappy. :embarassed:

Sombre Decree

Sombre darkness shall linger by my footfalls,
For your radiance, I am deficient;
Beauty outlasting ancient capitals,
Coalesced with a wit most prescient.

Lo – a lavish splendour you doth smoulder
That strikes an emanating opulence.
But to find Time and his bride grown older,
And a path of timid ambivalence;

Across yon dim bay of drown'd seraphim,
Doth thine face lie adorned in gild’d fog
As fleeting vapour that doth craft bedim
While naught but hesitant hands stand agog;

And as I watch the angel flutter free,
To grasp ev’r at what shall never be

Ranged and polysyllabic, shall we say? ~:) Interesting images, especially the glowing fog and drown'd seraphim -- that's one to stick in the mind.

I'm curious about "ambivalence" and "hesitant hands" in the last lines of the last two stanzas. Author comment?

Both are references to "mixed feelings" and internal confusion of the poetic personae. "Ambivalence" literally mixed feelings, contradictory feelings, uncertainty or indecisiveness. "Hesitant hands stand agog", undecided, doubtful or a lacking decisiveness of character that is in a state of eager desire.
