Help with adding factions.

Ok I was curious about something, and that something is, is it possible to add your own factions to MTW, this is with out VI installed. I will say i have Medmod 1.85 installed. I only ask this cuz it seems like it would be fun, and if this has been posted elsewhere then I apologize and ask this be taken down ASAP. Remeber I'm asking if you can add factions to MTW, not VI, or the medieval campaign in VI, just the medieval campaign in the original MTW. Sorry if how i word it is confusing. And if i should not have posted this, then i wont mind if yea knock me around for it. :smash: :smash:

Unfortunately it is not possible. You can change current factions though.

wow i forgot i had this topic till i was going thru here, oh well. Rythmic said i could change the factions that are in MTW though not add any new ones, my new question is how? and if there is a topic on this already then where might i find it. and thanks to everyone for putting up with me.

You can change their names in the right files, just open every file in LOC/Eng and search for the name of the faction you want to replace with something.

Replace its name with something else ( BUT not the original name - only the translated one). Later you should change its office titles, descriptions, starting positions, units, flags and shields ALL WITHOUT changing the incoded name e.g. FN_SPANISH which have to remain the same.

Anyway, the incoded name doesn't matter as long as you change all descriptions and ingame translations of the faction's name - simply while playing you will see your faction XXX instead of the original one, but in game files the faction's name should stay as before.

You should be prepared for some experiments and remember to backup the files every time - you will need some experience to handle such changes.

I suggest to have a look at some full conversion mods to see how it is done there - e.g. in my PMTW original FN_GOLDEN_HORDE is renamed as Georgia.:book:

If you feel like you might catch the modding bug, may I suggest you get the VI add-on? Two reasons - 1) it is a lot more moddable, 2) nearly all the mods and modding advice available are for MTW-VI, and there is a lot of very useful advice in the forums now!
