Couple questions about the campaign
Hello.
I started a campaign VH/M as the romans. It's been about 20 years and so far I've taken Italy, Sicily and Corisca, which was surprising easy, meet very little resistance...a bunch of battles/seiges, but all small.
So I've got all of Italy and starting to move northward toward Gaul.
Couple of observations/questions.
1. Carthage and the Illyrians were push overs, zero challenge with them.
2. While I took Italy, the factions to the north of me did nothing. Didn't expand, didn't come into my territories....just hung out.
3. Once you establish your economy you're golden, doesn't seem like there is much resistance from AI.
4. Would AI field larger armies if I gave them all a TON of money?
I like the mod and appreciate the work put into it, but I want a more of a challenge. How can I do that with out making battles H or VH?
Thanks!
Re: Couple questions about the campaign
1,2,3. Yeah, pretty much, the Carthaginian AI seems pretty inert in my games unless they can take all of Sicily which they usually fail at. I've never seen anything much happen in Iberia or Gaul. Its somewhat depressing.
4. You can try, I don't know if it'll help much.
Alot of the early major action in the game takes place in the East especially the Seleucids survive.
Re: Couple questions about the campaign
Yeah, most of the threads I've read where people are having a hard time is in the east....all the factions struggling to survive.
Unfortunately, I'm a Rome and Greek fan, so that doesn't help me much
Re: Couple questions about the campaign
You're best bet would be to not blaze through the map. Take it slow. If you follow the guidelines of conquering as EB intended it, as in building you're gov't first before anything else, it'll take ample time to expand. The more time the AI has, the better it does. In my campaign, the Auedi became a monster to the north while I was busy with Carthage. By the time I turned my attention to Gaul, they had even achieved "the most advanced civilization" status. It's been a brutal war, I can tell you that for a fact. It was tough just getting a foothold past the alps, not to mention that I lost a few key battles from the get go.
Anyhoo, just take it slow is the point. You'll find that the AI will do better as time goes on and pose a much greater challenge. And try to field historically accurate armies, which will make it harder for you to rush because you'll have to keep the Romans coming from Italy to wherever you need to be. Good fun!
Re: Couple questions about the campaign
We also don't give high level MIC's to factions at the start, so you'll find lower level troops to encounter yours early on, but they'll get better as things progress. We still have more regional units for Italy and Corsica/Sardinia, but they just aren't all in the game yet.
Re: Couple questions about the campaign
Thanks for the replies. Perhaps I am going moving a tad to fast. I'll start over and intentionally take it slow and see how things progress.
BTW, I know the script gives the AI money, would increasing this amount field larger armies?
Thanks!
Re: Couple questions about the campaign
Not really, because the settlement size effectively limits their armies. But you can adjust the population bonuses the AI receives... And give 'em a little money extra as well. ~;)
