A proposal: EB custom avatars

I thought it might be neat to have a bunch of URL avatars of EB units for common use. I'm willing to make some, if the EB team approves of course.

I'm thinking about 10 or so at first, so some choices would have to be made. Right now I'm thinking about:

1) Gaesatae (waist and above only :sweatdrop: )
2) Romani Polybian Principes
3) Pheraspidai
4) Drapanai
5) some sort of horse archer, from Sauromatae probably
6) Spartiatai Hoplitai
7) Baktrian general
8) Háruskoz-Swáiut or Márjoz
9) Grivpanvar
10) Sacred Band infantry

If approved, I'll start by taking 3 of the above and make various screenshots, edit them in photoshop and post a couple of different ones of each here so people can post wich ones they like best.

What do you think?

Indeed, but would ORG allow EB avatars? That is the question you should get answered.

The EB team wouldn't object to this though.

Then the EB team would definitely not object.

If you need anything special, then we could perhaps help out.

And maybe check the website? Although the unit images there might be too small

Get someone with MAX (or whatever it's called) to do some good renders of the units at a higher resolution than the game itself can produce, and you'll have yourself some fancy avatars. Remember that generals (and maybe captains) have higher resolutions too, so they would show up even nicer.

Sounds good, lets see how it turns out.

May I ask if we are allowed to use these avatars as "real" little avatars rather than large URL avatars? I would prefer the former, yet, would TosaInu allow it?

Tosa approves it, just someone make those avatars so he can upload them for the Org page.

May I ask which sort of avatar he approves of. Does he approve of the EB pictures becoming small regular avatars or the great large URL avatars? Each type it's advantages and disadvantages, the URL ones show more detail in higher resolution yet the the regular small avatars are generally viewable by all members and guests and are also better for those with dial-up conections. I would prefer the regular type due to it's generally viewability and it's convenience for those with a dial up connections - the page will load faster for them should they wish to see the new avatars.

Tosa said that the large URL avatars were always fine, but that he wanted to review the smaller avatars before allowing them. He said they'd have to fit with the other avatars.

Well at first I want to submit only 10, and 3 of them already are going to be helenic ones. If people prefer the Hypaspists above the Perispidai for example, I'll oblige.
After the first 10 or so there's a whole host of other units I'd like to put in: there's no Saba or Lusotana units up there yet, only one steppe unit and only one celtic unit for starters. And of course more Hellenic units ~;)

My hands and feet are tied for the rest of the day, but I'll try to post a bunch of avatars in the next 2-4 days.

Well, since all the units have been redone, and all 350 are right in there, why not go at the site and pick which ones you like and rather do?

Hypaspist would probably be cooler than the "something beginning with P". I'm looking forward to finding an avatar that suits me AND doesn't look annoyed. The current one gives a bad impression.

Edit: If someone were to make an avatar out of the vanilla "burning pig", then that would probably be it.

I edited the Spartiatai picture because the formation unfortunately causes spearheads to be projected through their heads sometimes. It was a hasty job so the final versions will be better. I'll probably edit the ground in the pictures as well.
I also spent 20 minutes getting nice screenshots from Grivpanvar, but they didn't appear in the TGA folder afterwards ~:confused:
Is there a console command in RTW that lets you zoom in more then the game does by default?

I think the camera mode allows for that.

Maybe try taking screenshots with Fraps?

An update: yesterday my motherboard went kaput (using a PC at my parents house at this moment)
So it's going to be a while before I can resume.
