Cheating in multi-player games is really getting on my nerves lately. There are a considerable amount of cheaters out there.
Now, I feel that I have to do something about it. EA has done nothing...
I have always kept my blacklist private, maybe it's the time for the hammer to fall and we make the names public for all players (especially newbies) to see and thus prevent unglorious defeats.
But then maybe that we somehow put a 'tag' or'label' on a player who maybe cheated but now isn't. And a label is difficult to put off...
On the other hand, cheating drives me crazy...
Any suggestions honourable sword dojoists?

No name posting here people. Is the cheating really getting that bad, i've not played online for 6 weeks or so for various reasons, but I'd never sufered to much before apart from the inevitable escapers.

I posted this topic in a moment of rage...
Guys, especially newbies, beware of cheaters and I encourage a private blacklist for you to have.
That's for sure.

Cheaters have a way of ruining a great game's multiplayer. Sick perverts. They get their fun out of beating people anyway possible. It's so much more pleasurable to beat someone fairly and honestly.

hail tera
it's all very well keeping org rightfully clean of accusations, but "look out for cheaters" isn't in the slightest bit helpful on the battle-field, especially for newbies. there are hardly any signs to notify a cheat and known cheaters deserve to be publically blacklisted. if there is any anti-cheat program available for stw then somone plz link it, but my opinion is make the dis-honourable known! there is no place for them EXCEPT a blacklist.

How can someone cheat in the online game, and how do I tell if my opponent is cheating?
I think this would be good to know for many of us.
-
There are various online cheats but the most common are the rout cheat (routs all your army) and the koku cheat (gives opponent more koku)
Now how I don't know and I don't invite anyone to tell how.

Posting the names of supposed cheaters is strongly discouraged (ie. forbidden) here, and AFAIK at the Community Forum as well. This is because it is impossible to prove whether a person has cheated or not, and some people are bound to try and brand others "cheaters" just because they don't like them. After a few futile flame wars, it was decided that public name-calling is more trouble than it is worth.
If you discover that someone is cheating, put him or her on your own blacklist, and tell your friends who trust you, but don't post any names on public boards. Thank you.
And newbies: don't get paranoid. Cheating exists, and it's always possible you find yourself facing 16 honor 9 Warrior Monks (the most common and popular use of the koku cheat), but please don't go around raving how someone has "by your estimate" used 100 koku too much or routed your army by unfair means. It's not good form.
(Note: I don't play MP, and am posting this purely because it's my duty as the admin to do so. Posting names isn't allowed, so all you can do is to live with it. I may close this topic soon, as this particular piece of policy isn't really open to discussion...)

Terazawa,
How about only playing people you know are on the up-and-up in comp games? Play friendly games against unknowns until you get to know them. And I don't mean one friendly game gets someone off the unknown list. It takes a lot more than that. Working things this way: after 6 months, I only have 2 players on my blacklist, and I never see them anymore anyway.

Good idea Puzz http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Thx for the suggestion, I'll get to know people before killing them.
Actually, cheaters usually aren't so friendly...

Thanks, Annsi, for making the rules on discussing cheating clear! I should have mentioned it when this topic began.

I just like to point out that if I did play on the multiplayer I wouldn't use cheats.
1) I can't get the bloody things to work!!!
2) I don't think it's a good way to play against someone else.
-
If you mean the single player cheats, they don't work on MP anyhow. As a rule I will close any threads naming people, so don't do it please. As Anssi says this one's not up for discussion. Tera I understand you were pissed off when you posted this thread, so don't take it personally, but I'm closing this before people start any debate on the issue
