4 Quick Questions

1. When using units with phalanx ability, is it better to fight with fortified option or not?

2. When using units with phalanx ability, is it better to charge or walk up to the enemy slowly?

3. The default non-reformed Romani units and reformed units seem to be pretty much the same. In fact, I think the reformed ones have same or lower stats. What's up with that? Aren't all units supposed to be stronger or more efficient with each reforms?

4. About this "lethality", where can I find it? On what file would they be listed in?

Hi soroosha,
1) Yes, it often is, epecially if you desire them to stay in line - it prevents them from wandering off and chacing routing enemies.
2) When in phalanx formation you cannot charge or run, unfortuantely, the only option you have is to walk very slowly. Sorry.

Lethality is listed in the EDU at the end of the rows describing the attacks. Or you could try the link in my signature ~;)

There are more to a units ability than the stats that appear on the units ingame stat card. The EDU will show you why the polybian units are better than the camillian units.

1. It depends. It's more often useful to turn it off while attacking other phalanxes.

2. Phalanxes don't charge. However you can take them out of phalanx, run them, and then hit the phalanx button. Its only really useful for smashing into the rear of units or for laughing at a army of polevaulting wannabes.

The Guard button is mainly for keeping formations and restraining soldiers from pursuing routing enemies. As Antisocialmunky said, it is useful for selectively breaking the edges of the phalanx if you fight other, narrower phalangxes (if yours is longer) I also found out that it's the Guard ability that gives a unit it's flanks and rear; if your phalanx is fighting in a critique position it might be better to turn it of so that the soldiers that were charged in the rear or flank switch to their swords. This obviously works best with the better phalangites.

When arranged in thin lines and holding group, especially with a lower quality phalanx, turn on defensive mode.
When arranged in a thick formation and attack, especially with a high quality or elite phalanx, turn off defensive mode, which would let your Agryaspidai/Epilektoi open up their formation with pikes before going in to melee them all to death. Epilektoi's AP machaira are especially painful.
