Spain, starting position and units.
Don't we have a couple of these threads?
Yeah, its been done several times. Just do a search in this section.
Who Cares? My fave Faction is Russia because of Dvor and Spain because of Tercios.Quote:

HRE - I like the two handed sword units and gothic cavalry plus it is my family heritage
Portugal - Great unit roster and fun starting area
Turkey - Its fun/different for me to play fully mounted armies, plus Janissaries and a challenging starting location
SCOTLAND!
Cuz if it's not scottish it's...
Seriously Though, they have a GREAT starting position, (three fairly easy rebel settlements right off the bat.) and excellent "Highlander" units. (Seems to me that Highlanders and Highlander Nobles are a tad more effective than their stats would suggest)
The trick is to stay on offense. (At least that's what I find.) DON'T give england ANY time to consolidate and get their longbowmen, etc. (It's worth an excommunication to get them out of the British Isles, Imho.)
Scotland the Brave! Two in a row for the good guys! ;)
make it three in a row for the scots!
(actually, i've never played m2tw, as my computer crapped out in fall and i'm building a new one at the end of may. but i'm almost half scottish and they have a lot of fun units from the looks of things. and anyways, who says you have to have played something to have an opinion on it? after all, you can enjoy professional boxing if you've never hit anyone.)
scottland dope army in beggining and pikes
HRE
The only army whose colour scheme doesn't look like it was designed by a blind drowned rat :laugh4:
Seiously though, their starting position makes for a very interesting game.
I agree with MR. Voltaire and Intranetusa. When did he lived?Quote:

My initial favourites were the Danes (carried over from MTW) - I liked the variety of infantry units and they have some decent cavalry too (including those Norse War Clerics that can be trained in cities). But after playing the Turks they take the prize for me - great missile cavalry (including those Sipahis than can do a passable job of charging infantry units after expending their ammunition), a great hybrid unit in the Ottoman Infantry which does a decent job of flanking when they're used up all their volleys, and those fantastic Janissary units that can be trained in cities. I now have hardly any castles as cities can pretty much produce anything I need - Sipahis, Janissary infantry and archers (don't have musketeers yet) and Saracen militia for garrisons. The only thing I use my castles for are for training naffatun.
For me it's a tough call.
I'm Ukrainian by heritage, so playing as the Rus is the obvious choice. I'm a big fan of the Dvor as well as a unit. The Russian late period helmets are very cool as well, reminiscent (sp) of the Gaul's helmet that fought Maximus in Gladiator. Not very historical, but cool nevertheless.
But, as for military tactics, I'm not a horse archer person. I love spears and infantry tactics, and I am a huge fan of Greek history and their hoplites. So, Scotland is as close as you can get to phalanx warfare with their pikemen. Plus, they are Scottish. It doesn't get any better than that (except for, well, Ukrainians like me).
Voltaire said that in the 1700s. In the Middle Ages, the Emperors were crowned by the Pope (some of them, anyways), conquered Northern Italy (and were in posession of Rome at some points, if I recall correctly), and was most certainly an empire, if a bit loosely controlled.Quote:

England, nice island to build forces and send them to the continent
Scotland, if you really dislike the English...
England, by far. Great fun steamrolling over the Scotts and French. Since the start of my campaign, I've never once been at peace. It was so much fun conquering everyone in my path. The unit selection fits my style perfectly as well. Using stakes is fun too, especially when against the Mongols in front of breached gates.
Wow you guys are all lame.... FRANCE ALL THE WAYwith our destoryingly powerful calvalry nothing stands in our way. :whip:
Poland, due to start location and Polish Noble cavalry.
Hmm. Well I'm from English descent but my favorite faction is by far Russia. Something about the steepes is just interesting to me.
In my opinion the Dvor is the best horsearcher/archer the Cossack is a good musket and swordsman, and the Tsar's Guard is a very good cavalry unit. And I love the axe shock troops. Plus being Orthodox means no pope begging you to do whatever he wants. It offers you a very challenging game to. Thosse armoured catholics to the west.. the Mongols and Timurids to the east. And lossing just one of thoose worthless pieces of land hurts the ego. I think it's the most fun.
Portugal. Early game they have the powerful Jinetes with decent infantry (the javelineers). Middle to late game they have the INCREDBILY powerful Almughavars, aventuros and portugese arquebusiers.
Only the Byzantines are eye sores with their bright purple scheme.Quote:
