Game Spy - Problems to Log In
On sunday, some players had problems with their GameSpy accounts. They can't log in VI multiplayer-lobby. But many other players were in game. So the servers were still working.
I atill have this problem. And I just hear from some other players from germany, UK, USA, ... that they still have that problem, too.
I wonder it's lasting 3 days now.

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
I had a discussion with the Gamespy Helpers on GS Arcade. According to them GS is experiencing problems with their servers and is working on fixing the problems, although according to them it should only be a problem in Europe.

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
Ok thanks Jochi.
Meanwhile.. I registered, but I can't login :wall: It keeps saying 'invalid cd key' though I'm sure I entered it fully correct. tried dozens of times. I recently bought MTW gold, got 1 cd key with that. I wonder if anyone has some experience logging in at mtw gold? :embarassed:
thanks in advance..:book:

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
Hi Drisos. I mentioned your dilemma at our SW gathering today. It was suggested that you try going into your Gamespy account, and save it again without making changes to it. Also, after entering the key, be sure to press enter, and then click continue.
I sent you an e-mail about where you can check in the Windows registry. I got that from the .com.
I hope you are able to resolve it. Let me know if I/we can be of assistance in some specific way. I'll continue to look for things to try.

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
Ok, thanks for the info. I'll be trying again tomorrow night. If it doesn't work, I'll try to find direct contact with Sega/Gamespy etc:book:
It'll work out, eventually. :2thumbsup:

That suggestion sometimes works for "account details incorrect". The "invalid cd key" error is caused either by a mistyped cd key or SEGA/CA doesn't have that cd key in their online database. If you're typing it in with caps lock and that doesn't work, try without caps lock and use the shift key for the letters. All "0"s are zeroes, and be careful not to confuse "B" and "8". Put in the dashes. The cd key is 6 groups of 4 alphanumeric characters with each group separated by dashes. Also, you may have to patch that MTW Gold Edition with the v2.01 patch for MTW Gold.

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
thanks puzz3d.
well, I'm confident I entered the cd key correct over ang over. so it should've worked. I'll do the patch, and if it doesn't work, seems like I'll have to contact gamespy to get me on the list, eh? :book:
We'll see. ~:)

Ok, got 2.01 now. still doesn't work. what next? send a pissed mail to sega, CA, or gamespy? I'm in doubt. :wall:

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
I would send an e-mail, but first I'd try to determine where to send it that would be more likely to get a fast, effective response. Of course, I would try to "tone" the e-mail in such a way that would inspire effective action on their part. I've found that when I get "pissed" and show it when wanting service from a company, I usually don't get what I need in a very timely manner. Being concerned and emphasizing that you've been a customer and a fan for a long time and would really like to enjoy their products tends to be a better approach in my experience.
This has to be a common problem. Have you tried all the forums for MTW-VI and Multiplayer at the .com, read, posted, and bumped? Perhaps PMing someone on the forum staff might at least get you pointed in a direction that might yield results? Not sure if they even have PM there, maybe e-mail instead, but it's worth a try. Good luck, my friend.

Hiya Drisos
Just to be sure, you did the above (upgraded to 2.01) by replacing your Medieval_TW.exe file with the one downloadable from the link below?
Adding the patch wont work, the exe file has to be changed out. No v2.01 patch involved for Medieval Gold, only an exe file swap.
Just wanting to be sure

MEDIEVAL: TOTAL WARTM GOLD EDITION PATCH
The exe file that comes with the Sega Medieval Gold edition is version 2.0. This patch will update it to version 2.01. This isn't necessary for those of you who have purchased the Eras pack as this already comes patched to 2.01.
Instructions:
The installation of this file must be done manually as follows.
Download the file and replace your current executable with this one. It's probably best if you retain a backup of your old one. By default, the destination folder Medieval Gold installs to is "C:Program FilesThe Creative AssemblyMedieval - Total War - Gold Edition".
Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Download the patch here.

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
@Tomi, yeah, I did. I was suprised by the way of installing. ~;) it said '2.01' in the main menu, so it's ok now.
Well, I'll go find some more info, or an email adress of someone that can help me.. :book:
Masa, Don't worry m8! I never intended to write a pissed email. ~;) Forgive me my temporary lack of modesty, but I'm not bad at pretending not to be pissed about something at all. hehe, you probably've been in such sitatuations as well. :beam: :egypt:

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
Pissed? PISSED?!! I never get freakin' pissed! What makes you think I get pissed??!! GAHHH! I am always the epitome of calmness, collectedness, and of course, KEWL-ness. How dare you suggest I am a worry wart? I don't have warts. Are you suggesting that I'm ugly? How rude! What do you know about what situations I've been in?? You ghostin' me, bomboclot?? You betta step off, gigantor!
Personally I think you oughta ram something serrated up the bingbangboom of whomever neglected to give you a legit CD-key. What nerve.
And you are considered most honorable?? Sheesh. You seem almost as bad as that Toga Onion guy that used to stink up this place ... gah!
btw: What's a mechency?

Drisos:
On a more serious note, I've been working with redbloof on MSN. He just got his copy of VI Gold Edition in the mail today. Guess what?
He's getting the same "CD key invalid" message after many careful tries, with help from me online and his older brother there. :furious3:
This might be a dubious pattern here. Now we have two potential SW players who are being prevented from enjoying the game because of what looks to be a product quality issue. I want you guys online--we need players, and cool players like you guys. I'll make inquiries too and see if I can get any results, the more that try, the more likely we'll get the attention you guys deserve for buying the game. GAH.
***
Edit: I chatted with VI players in the foyer. They suggested entering CD key, hitting enter, clicking continue, and if you get the error message, restart comp and then immediately try to log in. Dunno, but it's worth a try.
I just posted at the .com too, supporting you guys. Maybe someone will have some compassion for us.

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
lol :P good stuff. ~:)
ok. so it's a 'Gold' problem.. :wall: may have a better chance of convincing people to do something about it because there's more of us having the problem.. on the other hand, too bad redboof can't play either :(
I'll try the restarting stuff. ~:)
I'm convinced though, that probably we need to convince someone to 'add Gold cd keys to the -list-'
-
Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
Here is an old post about this problem, and the solution was to fax a picture of the box to CA and they sent him a new cd key.
Today, I'm going to check a couple of shops that sell used pc games, and if I see the Viking Invasion Expansion Pack or the Medieval Battle Collection, I'll buy two of them and send the cd keys to the guys who got invalid cd keys with their Medieval Gold. There are a couple of used VI expansion packs listed on amazon for $8 + $4 shipping, so that's a possiblilty as well.

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
Umm .. Yuuki, check with me on MSN before you buy anything. We've done some testing.
Drisos, sounds like sending that scanned image of your key might do the trick if you can get it to the right person. I'll advise rebloof to do the same when he returns from his trip on Monday.
Edit: redbloof tried the computer restart tip last night. I didn't think it would make a difference; it didn't.

Well the two game shops around here no longer sell used pc games, so that option is out. The only thing I saw was Medieval Gold for $20 new which is its regular price. If it had been $10, I would have taken a chance and bought it.

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
First mail was sent. Trying to contact Sega on it now.
Gah! I would've been here to play today if I could've just logged on. :wall:
well.. enjoy the games. ;):book:

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
Quite a hassle Drisos. I hope Sega will speed to fix it.

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
Drisos,
When you get a direct GameSpy account (nothing to do with the game it's self), they scan your computer for games, and present a list on the left side of their web page. Is your VI showing up there?
-
Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
Don't have a clue how to get to that page, Tomi.
Hey!
Seems like I didn't verify my email adress yet! May this be the problem? I'll go check now.:book:
Edit: Unfortunately. No succes yet.
Anyone have tips how exactly to contact sega? I found a list of support web pages and email adresses for various countries. holland and england didn't seem to have an email adress so I picked australia. (english :P) Not had a reply yet.. I wonder, what would be an effective way to attract their attention?

Re: Game Spy - Problems to Log In
This is the link to SEGA Europe Support:
SEGA Europe - Support Knowledgebase
I think you've already seen this. If you set Product to "PC" and Category to "CD Key," you can then choose a subcategory of Medieval Total War. However, I tried it, entering "invalid" as the search phrase, and the knowledge base returned nothing!.
You can create an account from the Login tab. I would do this, because once you do, it may provide you with a way to enter your problem on a screen, or it may provide you with an e-mail address.
SEGA Europe - Support Login
I also found SEGA USA:
SEGA USA - Support
If you can't get results in Europe, try USA. the one thing I read in several posts at the .com is be persistent. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease, etc." Good luck. You know how to reach me if you need to.

If you click twice on the GameSpy icon on your desk top, you will be presented with a logon screen. Log in, and to the left of the first page you come to is a list called MY Games. Viking Invasion should be on the list.
I believe you must have a email-verified GameSpy account before you can register your CG key (which you do through the game), and play multiplayer...
