Probably quite simple really, but how do you become allies with other countries? I'm sure its something to do with your emissary, but i've got no idea how to do it. Any clues anyone?

1. Train Emissaries from the Royal Palace.
2. Drag the Emissary over the rival factions Emissary or Faction Leader.
3. Wait for the Emissary to travel to meet the rival faction's leader (a few turns depending on where he is and if he moves about a lot, if he was in the next province then a single turn should do it).
4. When asked "do you with to propose and alliance?" - Accept.

It is your emissary - just place him on the leader of the faction you wish to ally with and a screen prompt will ask you if you wish to try to make an allliance. Later - normaly a year or 2 - you will get an answer, which is often no!! The higher the valour of your emissary the better.
You can also ally by marriage - you place a princess on the faction leader. In this case the presence of an emissary helps as well.
You will be offered alliances as well, especially early in the game. As a rule of thumb, accept them except when it will threaten another alliance you already have - i.e. your potential ally is already at war with your existing ally. In that case you will be given the choice.

Thanks alot, thats just what i needed. Just one more thing though, totally off the subject.
In the cheats section, there are cheats like '.worksundays.' etc that need to be typed in the 'campaign map' area, I dont know where that is though. Do you? Can it be done during a game or does it need to be done before?

I think the most common way is, to "drop" one of your emissaries on the king of the other faction. He will ask for an alliance, and if you're lucky they will accept.
The next way is to do the same with a princess.
If the other faction has unmarried king/heirs, you will get a marriage between, you and them, and that means an alliance. I think the AI is less likely to break an alliance formed "with blood"
If they don't have unmarried men of the royal line, then it will work the same way like with an emmissary (I think a princess has a greater chance of success in general)
You can also drop the emissary on a foreign princess to ask if she will marry one of your princes/king. (You will avoid "inbred-vices" by this way, too)
I think there is another way with catholic bishops(?), but I'm not quite sure.

In general the AI accepts alliance proposes not very often.

Welcome skin1301! I never used a cheat code, but the "campaign map area" should be the big map of europe on which your armies are standing. Meaning that you should type the code with no open window like unit training, building, unit descritpion and the like.Quote:

To add to all of the very useful information that has been said, the chances of alliances working out often depend on your faction leader's influence and the valour of the alliance proposer. The higher each one the higher the chance of them doing what you want them to do, accept! Hope this helps you, cheers!
If you want you alliances to last longer, and it is with a neighbor, try not to build up troops excessivly on your shared borders. This is not to say that you should leave yourself undefended, but try and have a similar amout of troops stationed.
If you start disarming along a border, and your ally does as well, then its more likely to be a lasting alliance, but if your ally maintains a large garrison on your border, its most likely they will be attempting to invade your lands relativly soon, or sometimes it is because they are at war on another provencial border. Either way, a well defended provence is a good deterent for invasion in this case.
It also helps if you are at war with the same faction. For instance, France and Italy vs. Germany.
Be aware that if you end up at war with another faction your ally is alligned with, the factions tend to ally with the weaker faction, or sometimes the ally they've been with the longest.
I also seem to find that the AI tactically remains allies in such a case. In the XL modification Scotland remained allied with England when I waged war with them. I beleive that this was because England was an almighty nation at this time and, since they had only one humble province, they were afraid to break with England out of fear of an English assault.Quote:
