Where's the "creating new units" thread gone?

There really ought to be one of these in the stickies section but there isn't. It's also the sort of thing you'd imagine has been asked time and again. When I can find the time, I'll delve into the depths, see what I find and 'bump' whichever seems to be the most useful.

For now, all I need is a quick "parts list" of what files are required and where they lurk.

Nothing fancy at this stage, like creating new graphics, or deliberations over stats, just details on exactly what needs to be cloned/renamed, prior to adding anything to the unit_prod file.

I basically just want to make a few extra units based on existing graphics, animations and combat stats but a different base unit size, a unique name and subtle changes to influence how the AI might use it.

I did manage to create a 'cloned & resized' unit for myself, while I was waiting for a reply and it didn't CTD* but I still wanted to see some old posts, just to be sure I hadn't missed anything vital. (* I've done everything bar an actual encounter with it in 3D battle mode, so far)
